"Daniel McCoy’s delightful and detailed exploration is a lovely and vitally needed example of moral apologetics at its best, one goal of which is to adjudicate between competing visions of reality by means of moral criteria. Visions both secular and religious. _Buddhism or Christianity_ courageously takes goodness as evidentially significant—and more specifically how well a tradition addresses this-worldly suffering. Informed and insightful, McCoy performs an indispensable service by underscoring several central and telling distinctions between Christianity and Buddhism on this score—like which provides the more robust account of objective moral values and duties and intrinsic human worth. In so doing he equips readers to arrive at their own principled and considered conclusions. McCoy's deeply informed and insightful work is worth serious study and close perusal, and it has my enthusiastic recommendation." - Dr. David Baggett

"Vonnegut is a paradox like that—a likeable curmudgeon, a pessimistic optimist, an earnest humorist. And it’s his honesty about the paradoxes of life that draws me back to him again and again. It’s an honesty that, despite Vonnegut’s inability to submit personally to the gospel message, brilliantly proclaims its truth. As Christian enthusiasts of popular culture realize, evidence for the truth of the gospel can appear in the unlikeliest of places." - Marybeth Baggett

The Morals of the Story is a clarion call to apologists to do apologetics in a moral and charitable way. Dr. David Baggett and Dr. Marybeth Baggett remind us that the task of apologetics is more than just winning arguments but winning people.

The Morals of the Story is an eclectic blend of humor and humility peppered with a dose of philosophy and culture. They make a tenable moral and philosophical case for the existence of God and point us to a bigger and better story that makes sense of the world as it is.

They invite their readers and apologists to see the aim of apologetics as moral transformation. This aspect places an accent on the primacy of virtue in apologetics.

The Centre for the Foundations of Ethics at Houston Baptist University will support and publicly advance an interdisciplinary community of scholars dedicated to exploring and answering an array of questions that arise concerning moral evidence for God’s existence and essential goodness.

The Centre will also facilitate and promote quality scholarly work on a variety of moral arguments for God’s existence; to equip believers and local churches—chaplains and counselors, pastors and laypeople—to use the argument(s) in their evangelistic outreach; to generate curricula to make those resources readily available at every educational level.

Our students have the opportunity to publish and promote work that advances the agenda of moral apologetics through Moral Apologetics Press; and to make HBU the epicenter of cutting-edge work in the promotion and promulgation of the moral argument for the God of classical theism generally and Christianity particularly.
