Nos da mucho gusto anunciarles que Canal Press va a publicar un chapbook de poetas jóvenes de Houston. Esta convocatoria se lanza desde el programa de PhD en Escritura Creativa en Español, en colaboración con Writers in the School. La invitación es para jóvenes de 13 a 17 años que vivan o estudien en el área metropolitana de Houston. Si escribes en español, en inglés o en spanglish, en espanish, estás invitado, invitade a participar. Los temas que sugerimos son familia, identidad, amistad, vivir y crecer en Houston, la cultura de la ciudad, el español y el spanglish, y la vida entre dos o más lenguas. También nos alegra contarles que la selección estará a cargo de un comité, y el Poeta Laureado de Houston, Reyes Ramírez, como invitado especial. Con esta antología queremos hacer un registro de las nuevas voces de esta ciudad que escriben, que habitan Houston, pero, sobre todo, que piensan y que reimaginan qué es esta ciudad y cómo es posible habitarla de otras maneras. We are very happy to announce that Canal Press will publish a chapbook featuring young poets from Houston. This open call is being launched by the University of Houston’s Ph.D. Program in Creative Writing in Spanish in collaboration with Writers in the Schools.
The invitation is open to young people ages 13–17 who live or study in Greater Houston.
If you write in Spanish, English, Spanglish, espanish, or any combination of these languages, you are invited to participate.
Suggested topics include family, identity, friendship, living and growing up in Houston, the city’s culture, Spanish and Spanglish, and life between two or more languages.
We are also happy to share that selections will be made by a committee that includes Houston Poet Laureate Reyes Ramírez as our special guest.
With this anthology, we hope to create a record of the new voices of this city: voices that write and inhabit Houston, but above all, that think and reimagine what this city is and how it might be inhabited in other ways.
