Other is a Shudder original psychological horror from this year and I really enjoyed this one. Despite its current standing with middle of the road reviews, I think this will find its audience if we give it some time. The performance of Olga Kurylenko as she relives her childhood traumas at the hands of an oppressive mother along with the parallels of the horror storyline build the tension as the two stories meld to the climax. The writer does well the keep the nature of the horror open as the movie progresses so it's still fresh at the ending. There are some great mutilation effects as well though this is not a wet horror film.

Bloat is a horror movie from this year. That's it. End of Review. It's just bad. Which is a real shame. The story premise had good bones. The performance of the cast was good! All just good enough to stick with it till the end. But... I kept watching just waiting for something redeeming to break loose and it never came.

The use trying to portray the experience of the story through the screens of devices is just overdone. It made the performances flat and cheapened the production quality. And you never get to see the damn monster! To have taken the time to build up the lore and never deliver the money shot, shame on you. Shame Shame! You see more of the monster on the poster than you do in the damn movie.

It's bad enough to now have to make a Bad Bad Movie classification. I didn't think I would make it to the end of one of these to even need this grade.

The Hallow is an Britain/Ireland production from 2105 about a conservationist in the Irish wilderness that becomes the victim of Irish folklore. This film is fantastic despite tanking in the box office. The set choices and use of the environment are top notch. Color and sound and the deep darks build the terror on screen as well as the great performances of the cast. They do take a while to drop the monster, but once they do, they don't skimp. The monster effects are spectacular giving real Pumpkinhead vibes. The final fight at the end is fitting and done well.

Psycho Ape! is an ultra low budget slap stick horror comedy from 2020 and features indie stars Kansas Bowling and Bill Weedin. Unfortunately, while I know that this film does have its audience, being solid in the vein of classic Troma wackiness, it just didn't pass the 20 minute test. Even trying to give it the benefit of the doubt, I quickly found myself just wanting to do something else. Not my cup. Pass.
