"The reason the GOP does not condemn and refuses to do anything about the violence of January 6th, 2021 is because they are a big part of the problem, and not a part of the solution." - B-Ellis
When has anyone in Washington ever accepted accountability for their actions? Please allow me to put on my Christian ideological hat for a moment to respond to this and address the glaring religious hypocrisy that is deeply embedded in this issue.
Let's face it the largest portion of people involved in the January 6th insurrection were Evangelical Christians or at the very least individuals whose actions were fueled by Evangelical Christian ideologies.
This country was born also out of a rebellion. A rebellion against the Church. The Church of England but nonetheless the Church. Over the years phrases such as "God Bless America" and "In God we Trust" have become a prevailing part of American culture and identity and signals of patriotism.
As a former Christian of the Evangelical persuasion If I am not mistaken I distinctly recall being taught that the Bible defines rebellion as a sin that is comparable to witchcraft. So whatever "blessings" people claim God has bestowed on America are actually nothing but a ruse according to the Bible. Also If I am not mistaken it is my understanding that Yahweh/Jesus doesn't abide let alone "bless" acts of rebellion. So in fact it stands to reason that whatever "blessings" this country has acquired, has been by nefarious misappropriation and blatant theft.
To my knowledge there weren't any black people on the Mayflower, the Nina, or the Pinta, the ships that were said to have landed here.
If one follows the agricultural parables that Jesus taught, it specifically states that you can't get good fruit from a bad tree. So unless white Americans at some point repented of their original American sin of rebellion, virtually every single act from that point on can be considered nothing but bad fruit. And according to Jesus the whole thing should be cut down and burned.
So I am not sure where those on Jan 6th got the notion that they were doing something noble or righteous in the actions they took. If they actually read the Bible they would already know they were on the wrong side of the issues that ultimately brought them there.
Perhaps in the same spirit the people that fled England were not seeking religious freedom at all, but simply a place where they could do whatever the f**k they wanted without having to be held accountable and the fruit of those rebellious seeds are still producing that narrative today with what we see playing out in the highest levels of American government.
Perhaps this is also why the idea of "Grace", "Forgiveness of Sins" and "Absolution" are so appealing to them. Why would I bother to abstain from doing wrong things if I can just make it alright by asking Jesus to forgive me? Meanwhile the trail of generational damage left along the way continues to persevere.
