The Friendship Circle of Houston is gearing up for its 15th annual Friendship 5K/1 Mile Fun Walk & Festival. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, Jan. 21, 1 p.m., at Godwin Park (5101 Rutherglenn Dr.) in Meyerland. Registration begins at noon). Last year, the festival attracted more than 725 participants.

Brush, 35, put his musical career on hold for a couple weeks, leaving his Austin home to volunteer in Israel Dec. 10-24. And he found plenty of inspiration along his journey.

Jewish Federation of Greater Houston is now accepting need-based scholarship applications for Jewish overnight summer camp and Israel travel, including gap-year programs. Scholarships enable children and teens to participate in transformative Jewish educational experiences.

“Jewish summer camp and Israel travel is a time for children to be free, a time of growth and independence,” said Sherrie Eisenman, chair of the Federation’s Scholarships and Grants Committee. “Spending time with peers, in an impactful Jewish experience away from home, is one of the pillars that helps to create Jewish identity and continuity."
