Mystery Writers of America Southwest Chapter For members of the Southwest chapter of MWA, and any mystery lover in the region. We call ourselves MWA/SW for short. We presently have 200 members.

We are one of 11 chapters of a large national organization, Mystery Writers of America. MWA is the pre-eminent organization for professional writers in the mystery/suspense field. Our National headquarters is in New York, our website there is www.mysterywriters.org. The SW chapter includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas with regular meetings in Houston and Dallas.

Texas Southern University Forensic Science Learning Laboratory Faculty --Dr. Ashraf Mozayani--Professor and Executive Director of Forensic Sciences

Dr. Ashraf Mozayani is an international and nationally known forensic scientist for more than twenty years.
Dr. Mozayani has stified as an expert witness in forensic toxicology and pharmacology in the states of Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Oklahoma, Florida, Kansas, California, Idaho, Montana, the Federal Court in Massachusetts, and the numerous Military Courts of the United States.

She is the executive director of forensic sciences and a professor at Texas Southern University. Prior to this position, she was the crime lab director and chief toxicologist for Harris County Institute of Forensic Science for more than fifteen years She is a fellow of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT), an emeritus member of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors, a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), a member Council of Forensic Science Educators, and a member of numerous other scientific organizations. She is an on-site team leader evaluator for the AAFS Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission (FEPAC), and a laboratory auditor for national laboratory certification program inspector for the National Institute on Drug Abuse. She is also a ISO-international assessor and a senior forensic advisor of crime laboratories for the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program and past president of the Southwestern Association of Toxicologists. Dr. Mozayani received a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Tehran and a Doctorate of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Toxicology from the University of Alberta. She has authored and co-authored five books on topics, such as Crime Laboratory Management, Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault. and Drug Interaction.

Famous Texas author Reavis Z. Wortham speaks at 12 noon, Carrabba’s Italian Café, 1399 S. Voss, Houston TX.

Reavis Z. Wortham is the critically acclaimed author of the Red River mystery series set in rural northeast Texas in the 1960s. Kirkus Reviews listed his first novel, The Rock Hole as one of the “Top12 Mysteries of 2011.” True West magazine recognized Vengeance is Mine as one of the Top 5 Westerns of 2015, while The Strand Magazine placed Dark Places in their Top 12 Novels of 2015.
