You’ve heard plenty about the fight over cutting three Fort Bend County associate judge positions. But there’s much more to the story.

A compromise was on the table that would have saved all three positions while asking the courts to meet performance benchmarks. But six of the county’s 10 district judges slammed the door on that compromise telling commissioners and Judge Daniel Wong to "stay in your lane."

And what does the court data actually show? How does Fort Bend compare with other fast-growing counties? And how much judicial capacity would really be lost?

Rain made for a wet evening commute across parts of the Katy and Richmond areas Wednesday as scattered thunderstorms moved through the region.

Drivers encountered periods of heavy rain, wet roads and reduced visibility during the afternoon commute.

Rain chances are expected to decrease tonight, with only a slight chance of thunderstorms before about 10 p.m. Skies should become partly cloudy overnight, with lows in the mid-to-upper 70s.

More scattered thunderstorms are possible Thursday, particularly during the afternoon. The National Weather Service puts the rain chance at 30% in Katy and 40% in Richmond, with highs in the low-to-mid 90s.
