In response to the tragic shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, Houstonians gathered in the four corners of Post Oak Bivd and Westheimer Road to protest and call for an end to ICE presence in the city.
While at the protest we spoke with about his thoughts on the incident and what these nationwide protests mean.

Houstonians gathered in the Galleria area in memory of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Her death has sparked protests nationwide with Houston’s protesters denouncing her death and calling for an end to ICE presence in the city.

Good was a U.S citizen, prize-winning poet and a hobby guitarist, who city leaders have said was there as a legal observer of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities. The Trump administration has called her a “domestic terrorist,” and has defended the agent’s fatal response.

Meet the new Latina Council Member Alejandra Salinas. Que Onda Magazine had the pleasure of greeting Salinas on her first full day in office on Wednesday.

Sworn in just yesterday Jan. 6, the newest at-large City Council member Salinas, Position 4, becomes the city’s first out LGBTQ+ Latina on council. After a decisive runoff win, she now fills the seat vacated by Letitia Plummer — and says she’s ready to get to work on affordability, infrastructure, and public safety.
