Annaliese Holland’s life was defined by chronic illness. Diagnosed with a rare neurological disease, she spent most of her twenty-five years in hospitals, her body slowly shutting down. By twenty-two, doctors told her the truth: her condition was terminal. Yet, despite the pain, Annaliese found peace, knowing she had the rare ability to choose how she would say goodbye.
“I’m lucky,” she said. “Not everyone gets to choose. Not everyone gets to say goodbye the way they want. I do. And that means everything.”
