Samuel Pack Elliott (born August 9, 1944) is an American actor. He is the recipient of several accolades, including a Screen Actors Guild Award and a National Board of Review Award.
He has been nominated for an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and two Emmy Awards. Elliott was cast in the musical drama A Star Is Born (2018), for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and the corresponding prizes at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards. He also won a National Board of Review Award. Elliott starred as Shea Brennan in the American drama miniseries 1883 (2021–2022), for which he won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie.
Elliott is known for his distinctive lanky physique, full mustache, and deep, sonorous voice. He began his acting career with minor appearances in The Way West (1967), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), season five of Mission: Impossible, and guest-starred on television in the Western Gunsmoke (1972) before landing his first lead film role in Frogs (1972). His film breakthrough was in the drama Lifeguard (1976). Birmingham was born in San Antonio, Texas. His family moved frequently during his childhood, due to his father's career in the military. He learned to play the guitar at an early age and considers music his "first love". After obtaining a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern California, he worked as a petrochemical engineer before becoming an actor. In the early 1980s, a talent scout spotted Birmingham at a local gym, where he had been bodybuilding and entering bodybuilding contests. This led to his first acting experience, in a music video for Diana Ross, for her 1982 hit song "Muscles". After appearing in Ross' music video, Birmingham began to pursue acting as his primary career. He studied acting with Larry Moss and Charles Conrad. In 1986, Birmingham made his television debut on an episode of the series Riptide. By 2002, he had a recurring role as the character Oz in the medical drama Body & Soul, starring Peter Strauss. In 2005, he was cast as the older Dogstar in the Steven Spielberg six-part miniseries Into the West. He recently played a Texas ranger a ranger, in Hell or High Water, opposite Jeff Bridges.

𝗡𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗕𝗮𝘆. Listed at $175 with completely false claims was: “Original Copy from the L.A. Huffman Estate of General Custer.” Frank Ross of Bozeman (MT) made the print, likely after 2000. He had NO access to the original negative. It was NOT “From the L.A. Huffman Estate.” An original cabinet card might be worth $5,000. In contrast, modern prints of Custer are available for $10.

In 1876, Lt. Col. George A. Custer sat for this and other photos by Jose Mora in New York. Photographer L.A. Huffman and Custer never met. In June 1876, Custer traveled to Eastern Montana. He did not enjoy his visit. L.A. Huffman came to Montana in 1879, and liked it so well that he stayed. Commentary and Photoshop restoration of the eBay scan by Gary Coffrin.

Starting in the Civil War, Custer became one of the more famous public figures in America. His own self-promoting tales of bravado were widely published. Reporters often traveled with Custer’s field expeditions.

In 1863, Custer had obtained a battlefield promotion as Brevet Brigadier Major General, a promotion not accompanied by increased pay or change in responsibilities. During the June 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn in Eastern Montana, Custer’s actual paid rank was Lieutenant Colonel. Custer served under Major General Alfred Terry.

𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮’s autobiographical tales of 1878-79 were told in “Tough Trip Through Paradise.” His mastery of Plains sign language helped him trade goods and alcohol in Montana for valuable hides. The frontier lothario interacted primarily with Pend d’Oreille, but also Blackfeet, Blood, Crow, and Cree. These were the final years when many Natives traveled freely, not yet conquered and confined to reservations. Montana’s White population was merely 30,000. Railroads had not yet arrived.

In his first of three marriages to Natives, Garcia wed In-who-lise, a Nez Perce who evaded capture after Chief Joseph’s defeat. Andrew Garcia’s first-person account ranks with those of Teddy “Blue” Abbott and Bub Fudge, giving unique insights into early frontier life.

Andrew Garcia, a Texan of Mexican descent, died in 1943. He had not wanted his writings to be distributed during his lifetime. Editor Bennett Stein faced an epic task, having to review thousands of pages and write a volume that might sell. His son David Stein, only the second person to have access to all of Garcia’s writings, objected to omissions by his father, omissions that would have portrayed Garcia less favorably. David Stein’s commentary on Garcia's book can be found online, and should be read for balance.
