I enjoyed the depiction of angels as having different roles in Heaven. Some are warriors. Some are counselors. Some are guardian angels....

The battle scenes and the lengths the demons go to to deceive Mike and to take Dawn out of the fight were pretty intense and kept the pages turning. The interactions between Mike and Dawn were also well written and heartfelt. I mean, imagine finding out that yes, you really do have a guardian angel, and here they are in your living room!

If you're a fan of Christian speculative fiction, you'll enjoy Guardian Angel.

"Guardian Angel" is being translated into Spanish, and the first three chapters are back! Here's a short excerpt:

Mientras que hay un par de ojos en cada uno de ustedes cada minuto, tal vez no son los mismos pares de ojos siempre. Nos gusta tomar un descanso ocasional. Después de todo…hablar con amigos, relajarnos, cantar un poquito, recargar baterías…después hay que regresar a la frontera. Tenemos un terreno de juego que está lo suficientemente cerca como para tener una buena vista, pero lo suficientemente lejos como para evitar que se produzcan enfrentamientos con el enemigo... bueno, en su mayor parte. Fue una noche en la que regresé de un viaje y encontré a Dawn en un inusual modo silencioso, observando a Michael a través del portal mientras él dormía. Tenía una pluma de tintero en su mano derecha y la golpeaba nerviosamente. “¿Estás bloqueada?” Me aventuré a preguntar.
“No, ya terminé,” ella respondió distraídamente.
No por nada he sido consejero durante casi mil años. “Dawn, hemos sido mejores amigos desde antes que existiera el antes”, mencioné. “No es algo tuyo estar así de callada”.
“Tan sólo…estoy pensando.”
“¿Sobre qué?”
“Ya sabes”.
“¿El gran día?”
“Así es”.
“¿Sabes cuándo será?”
“Ariel, no quiero saber. Quiero estar tan sorprendido como el”.
“Entonces, ¿cuál es el problema?”
“Es sólo que…somos tan diferentes”
“Algunas veces eso puede ser algo muy bueno”
“¿Pero ¿qué va a pensar? Me refiero a cuando se entere.
Me reí y me transformé en algo cercano a lo que llamarías Uniforme Completo. Es impresionante. “Dawn, entiendo que los humanos tiendan a ser muy afectados cuando nos conocen por primera vez. Dudo que haya algo de lo que tengas que preocuparte”.
“Ariel, ¡por favor! ¡Sí, yo sé cómo hacer un escándalo! Pero ¿qué pasa cuando el espectáculo se termina?, ¿qué sucede cuando él llegue a conocerme por quien soy y no por lo que en realidad soy?” Se hizo una pausa y después ella preguntó, “¿crees que le agrade?”.
Escogí mis palabras cuidadosamente. “Bueno, si no es así, entonces creo que él necesita más ayuda de la que este consejero puede ofrecer”.
“Desearía saber.”
Hubo un pequeño silencio, después ella agregó; “15 minutos”.
“¿Qué?”
“Sólo desearía poder cruzarme en su mundo por 15 minutos. No para hacer algo especial ni nada. Sólo para conocerlo y darle la oportunidad de que me conozca”.
“Oh, ¿nada especial?” Respondí levantando una ceja. “¿Quieres romper el protocolo, cruzar la frontera, posiblemente provocar un incidente interdimensional y todo por una tacita de té y una platicadita?”
“Lo sé, lo sé,” suspiró.
“Admiro tu espíritu, pero ambos sabemos que no estarías satisfecho con sólo 15 minutos. Después habría 15 más, después una hora, después una noche, después antes de que nos demos cuenta ya estarías viviendo allí. Sólo espera. Ya lo conocerás muy pronto.”
“Si. Tienes razón”.
Me fui, pensando que mi trabajo ahí estaba hecho. Después, escuché un murmullo. “Aunque…sería un bonito comienzo”.
Todavía no sé cuándo todo empezó, pero si tuviese que apostar, escogería este preciso momento.

"Guardian Angel" is completed, proofread, and typeset. The last major item outstanding is the final cover art. I've engaged an experienced pro who does business as "SIGMADOG;" he's wrapping it up and retiring but I snuck in under the wire.

What you see up as the cover photo on this page is the draft cover in black & white; the final cover art will be full color, of course. Once I have that and do one final round of proofreading, we'll be looking at a March 29th release of the hardcover version for $32.95 (here in the States), with the softcover following on May 15th for $18.95 and the e-book also on May 15th for $7.95. But starting in mid-February you'll be able to pre-order that e-book for 25% off...so keep an eye on us here!

A translated Spanish version and and English large-print version will be available shortly after the May 15th date, but exact release date and pricing is not yet firm. See you soon!
