Robert De Niro was born on August 1943, in New York City, into an artistic family. He began his career in the 1960s and rose to prominence with roles in Bang the Drum Slowly (1973), Mean Streets (1973), and especially The Godfather Part II (1974), which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He continued to impress with Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980 โ€“ Best Actor Oscar), Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, The Irishman (2019), and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023). Chief Dan George (born Geswanouth Slahoot, July 24, 1899 โ€“ Tsleil-Waututh Nation, Canada) was a remarkable actor, poet, writer, and spiritual leader of Indigenous heritage.
He rose to fame with his unforgettable role as Old Lodge Skins in Little Big Man (1970), earning him an Oscar nomination โ€“ the first ever for an Indigenous Canadian actor.
Beyond the screen, he was a powerful voice for Indigenous rights, tirelessly advocating for cultural preservation, environmental protection, and social justice.
Through his poetry, books, speeches, and community work, he inspired pride, unity, and cultural awareness, empowering future generations of Indigenous youth.

WHITE ELEPHANT BAR, circa 1910 in Fallon (Montana), which was a Northern Pacific Railroad water stop 50 miles east of Miles City. Two signs promoted Grain Belt Golden beer. A compressed gas cylinder to dispense draft beer was at the lower right. The hewn log saloon had a rear extension built from dimensional lumber.

One of the early meanings of "seeing the elephant" was seeking satisfaction in disreputable places. Later โ€œseeing pink elephantsโ€ would refer to drunken hallucinations. PC users can click to better see the classic photo by John Breum. Text and digital restoration of photo by Gary Coffrin.

SUNDAY AT ST. LABRE MISSION, Northern Cheyenne Reservation, 1899โ€”1901. The rare historical photo by Miles City (Montana) photographer L.A. Huffman showed Father James Vermaat seated toward the center. It appeared that Brave Wolf and perhaps Little Wolf were seated nearby. Brave Wolf fought against Renoโ€™s troops about four miles from Custer, and was present during the final portion of the Custer battle. Little Wolf was a chief who fought in many battles, but not at Little Big Horn. If we knew identities, perhaps similar tales could be told for others.
