⚠️ CenterPoint Activates Emergency Operations Center Ahead of Tropical Disturbance

CenterPoint Energy has activated its Emergency Operations Center as Invest 97L approaches the Texas Gulf Coast.

The Houston area could see heavy rainfall, gusty winds and localized flooding from Tuesday into Wednesday.

CenterPoint says crews and equipment are being positioned in advance, while power lines and substations are being inspected and hazardous vegetation is being addressed.

Six minors between the ages of 12 and 17 have been ordered deported by a Chicago immigration judge — even as their applications for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) remain pending.

The children, from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, had been found by state courts to need protection due to abuse, neglect or abandonment by a parent.

Sen. Dick Durbin attended the immigration court proceedings, while Rep. Mike Quigley sharply criticized the process.

Attorneys plan to appeal the removal orders to the Board of Immigration Appeals and, if necessary, seek emergency relief from the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The cases are raising renewed questions about due process and protections for vulnerable immigrant children.
