🎥 “Slappin’ and Smearin’ in the Edit Bay” 🎙️
There was this one time, about six months into my editing job at WMC Action News 5 in Memphis, the pressure was on. Deadlines were flying. I turned to my chief editor and said, “Look, at a certain point, I’m slappin’ and smearin’!” — meaning, I was laying down whatever video I could find just so the anchor had something to read over.
Not ideal. But real.
From audio booths to broadcast newsrooms, from radio mornings with Argo Memphis to steadicam vests in the newsroom—I’ve learned this craft through the fire and the favor of God. And let me tell you: whether it’s editing or life, “You gotta keep it tight, Mikey.”

Are you like me when it comes to names of famous people, sometimes I hear a name and think I should know who that is and what they are known for. Well, that happened to me tonight while scrolling through YouTube videos. I noticed the name Ricky Skaggs and saw he had a recent interview on the Eric Metaxas Radio Show on TBN. I’m from the Gen-X era so I wasn’t as educated as a should have been about this very talented God fearing man. The instrumental he plays at the end of the show is so beautiful. What makes Ricky’s story so great is the surety of God’s hand on his life. You will come away from listening to this a big fan.
