The Perseid meteor shower is on its way, and you don’t want to miss it!

This is your chance to see stunning shooting stars, and we can thank debris from large comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle slamming into Earth's atmosphere for the spectacle. This meteor shower is a crowd favorite because of its reliability and the potential for breathtaking fireballs.

According to NASA, the annual Perseids are active from now through Aug. 24, and it's "considered the best meteor shower of the year." Meteor activity will peak on the night of Aug. 11 and morning of Aug. 12, where viewers can see up to 50 meteorites per hour on a clear night with dark skies.

Billionaires Are Going to Space, but Hollywood Is Just Around the Corner

FROM THE WIRE
Last year, news broke that Tom Cruise and director Doug Liman were cooking up a $200 million project with Universal that would find them flying to the International Space Station with the help of Elon Musk’s SpaceX. That project is currently in the early stages of pre-production, but Russia will get there first, with director Klim Shipenko and actress Yulia Pereslid heading to the ISS to shoot scenes for the feature-length “The Call” in October. There are also two reality series with their sights set on ISS, “Space Hero” and “Who Wants to Be an Astronaut?”, the latter of which aims to send the winner of an astronaut training competition to the station next year.

While Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos face backlash for their joyrides, Hollywood has more ambitious plans in the near future.

What NASA did when Russian module Nauka spun the ISS

FROM THE WIRE
Senior NASA officials were quick to downplay the incident, insisting the crew was never in any danger during a roughly 45 minute period when the space station lost attitude control, or the ability to maintain the vehicle’s orientation relative to the planet below. But the team responsible for the space station was clearly worried the unexpected maneuvers might have damaged the solar arrays that power the orbiting lab, although no issues have been identified so far.
