Suspect in Murder of MCA’s Daughter Arrested Near Uganda Border After Months on the Run
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced the arrest of the prime suspect in the murder of Seth Nyakio Njeri, the 23-year-old daughter of Kirinyaga Nominated MCA Lucy Njeri.
DCI, in a statement on December 13, said that detectives arrested Ken Kimanthi Gichunuku, alias “Sultan,” months after he went into hiding.
The suspect was nabbed on December 13, 2025, in Busia town near the Kenya–Uganda border following a sustained manhunt.
Nyakio’s body was discovered on October 14, 2024, inside Blessings Building in Thika’s Biafra Estate. Investigations indicated she was strangled, with an autopsy later revealing bruises on her neck, cheeks, and thighs.
Police had identified a former boyfriend as a key suspect and warned the public that Gichunuku, who had a prior case involving death threats, was dangerous and on the run.
According to the DCI, forensic leads and inter-county operations involving homicide detectives and officers from Kisii South and Busia traced Gichunuku to a cereal distribution shop where he had been working while evading arrest.
