This week's episode features something old (though they'd prefer the term "original"), something new, and something Newsies!

Learn more about the two Pride celebrations coming to Houston this June as Davis Mendoza Darusman interviews Kendra Walker, President of Pride Houston 365 (organizers of this year's 46th Annual Houston LGBT+ Pride Celebration on June 29th), and Bryan Cotton & Andrea Simonton, President and Director of Communications of Houston's New Faces of Pride (organizers of the inaugural New Faces of Pride Parade and Festival on June 22nd).

Closing us out with something Newsies, Brett Cullum speaks with singer & actress, Christina Wells - starring in NEWSIES for Theatre Under The Stars as Medda Larkin, a character based on the real-life performer Aida Overton Walker. Christina was Houston's Pride Idol in 2016 and appeared on America's GOT TALENT in 2017. She is a celebrated pop singer and Broadway-style performer known for her big voice and bigger heart. She is also a Registered Nurse by trade. Brett Cullum talks to her about making it in the industry, what it is like to work for TUTS, and how she identifies within our community.

Tune in to 90.1 FM KPFT Houston TONIGHT at 8:00pm for a new episode of Q***r Voices, with special guests Houston City Councilmember Mario Castillo and Pulitzer-nominated author, journalist & activist, Anne-christine d'Adesky!

As the only openly-LGBTQ+ Houston City Councilmember, Mario Castillo represents the 200,000+ residents of District H. With Councilmember Castillo completing his first 100 days in office last month, we're grateful for his time speaking with Davis Mendoza Darusman about his & his team’s accomplishments so far with a look ahead, his work & advocacy as the only openly-LGBTQ+ councilmember, and his thoughts on one of the biggest stories in Houston’s q***r community today: the two Pride parades on back-to-back weekends.

Anne-christine d'Adesky is an American author, journalist and activist of French and Haitian descent living in New York. She has maintained a deep relationship with Haiti, reporting the 2010 earthquake from a feminist angle, especially noting the impact of the disaster on the lives of teenage girls. She has also contributed to humanitarian projects in East Africa, as well as conducting extensive research into HIV/AIDS and its treatment worldwide. As the founder of Stop the Coup 2025 ( www.stopthecoup2025.org ), she spoke with Deborah Moncrief Bell about their effort to counter the work of The 2025 Project, developed by the conservative Heritage Foundation, and much more.
