The BeyGOOD Foundation, founded by Houston’s own Beyoncé, is donating $100,000 to Texas Southern University’s Ocean of Soul Marching Band Texas Southern University "Ocean of Soul" Marching Band, a force that carries the heartbeat of excellence and achievement.

This gift expands opportunities for Texas Southern students by providing scholarships, strengthening programs with new resources, and preserving a legacy that continues to shape culture, creativity, and community.

From the 2024 Christmas Day Beyoncé Bowl halftime show to the Third Ward of Texas, we’ve been country.

Shout out to my band hero. Not only did he come and make my senior year in band the best ever. But he inspired me to play tuba and end up at Southern University. BAND HEAD Network wants everyone to give a congratulations to Carl Collins for this awesome achievement.

The extraordinary talent, passion, and dedication you have shown to the music industry coupled with your philanthropic work is phenomenal. The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to individuals who have exemplified the willingness to provide a high level of humanitarian assistance and contributory excellence to their skills and profession, their communities and this great nation. An Honorary Doctorate is one of the highest distinctions a university bestows upon an individual, and awarding them is a long-standing tradition. But HISD has declined to approve the trip, after a year of fundraising. Why? "New Orleans is too dangerous of a town to perform."
