Volunteers with Immigrant Alert share the contents of the “Red Card,” created by the Immigrant Legal Resource Center. It’s a small card meant to be carried in your wallet or purse — a simple, practical tool to help immigrants assert their constitutional rights, such as:
✅ The right to remain silent
✅ The right to have an attorney present
during encounters with immigration or law enforcement officers.
Recently, some listeners have criticized the Red Card as “false” or “ridiculous,” claiming that undocumented people have no rights.
That is simply not true.
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that constitutional protections apply to all persons within the United States — not just citizens. Cases that affirm these rights include Yick Wo v. Hopkins (1886), Plyler v. Doe (1982), and Zadvydas v. Davis (2001).

Es una pequeña tarjeta para llevar en la cartera o bolso — una herramienta sencilla y práctica que ayuda a los inmigrantes a ejercer sus derechos constitucionales, como:
✅ El derecho a permanecer en silencio
✅ El derecho a tener un abogado presente
durante encuentros con oficiales de inmigración o de la ley.
Recientemente, algunas personas han criticado la Tarjeta Roja, diciendo que es “falsa” o “ridícula,” alegando que las personas indocumentadas no tienen derechos.
⚖️ Eso no es cierto.
La Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos ha establecido que las protecciones constitucionales aplican a todas las personas dentro del territorio estadounidense — no solo a los ciudadanos.
