Friends:
Please tune in to Immigrant Alert / Alerta de Inmigrantes — Fridays at 9:30 a.m. on KPFT 90.1 FM Houston. 🎧 Listen on your radio, the KPFT App, or online at kpft.org.

Volunteers with Immigrant Alert share the contents of the “Red Card,” created by the Immigrant Legal Resource Center. It’s a small card meant to be carried in your wallet or purse — a simple, practical tool to help immigrants assert their constitutional rights, such as:
✅ The right to remain silent
✅ The right to have an attorney present
during encounters with immigration or law enforcement officers.

Recently, some listeners have criticized the Red Card as “false” or “ridiculous,” claiming that undocumented people have no rights.

That is simply not true.

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that constitutional protections apply to all persons within the United States — not just citizens. Cases that affirm these rights include Yick Wo v. Hopkins (1886), Plyler v. Doe (1982), and Zadvydas v. Davis (2001).

We’re grateful for the strong public response to the Red Card! Respectful conversations help build understanding, promote informed decisions, and strengthen our democracy.

If you or someone you know needs help creating a family safety plan, finding a lawyer, or obtaining immigration information, call the Houston Immigration Resource Hotline — free and confidential — at 1-833-468-4664.

Alerta de Inmigrantes/Immigrant Alert is a live bilingual (Spanish/English) program which accepts calls from listeners at 713-526-5738. Listen later at https://archive.kpft.org/

📢 ¡Amiga, amigo!
