Back in 1986, a 14 year old Timothy Mosley, long before he would revolutionize hip hop production as Timbaland, was working as a dishwasher at a Red Lobster restaurant in Norfolk, Virginia, when a coworker's reckless mistake changed his life forever. The coworker, who had brought a pistol to work and was bragging about it, accidentally pulled the trigger, and the bullet struck the teenager under the arm, grazing his neck and instantly paralyzing his arm. Doctors told him the bullet would remain lodged in his body permanently, and for nine months he was partially paralyzed, unable to use his right arm. But instead of giving up, a young Timbaland found a way to adapt; during his long recovery, he taught himself to DJ using only his left hand, a skill that would become the foundation of a legendary career. Years later, Timbaland would call that bullet "my biggest blessing," saying it serves as a constant reminder of his purpose: "Having that bullet in me keeps reminding me why I'm blessed to be here, and what's my purpose, that I have to serve going forward."
