I’ve spent some time with the Gateron Type R tactile switch, and it’s easily one of the most unique tactile experiences I’ve had. From the first press, you can tell it’s different — the bump hits instantly with almost no linear travel before or after. Each keystroke feels crisp, snappy, and unapologetically tactile. The sound leans bright and clacky, offering sharp feedback without being harsh. It’s the kind of switch that makes typing feel lively and satisfying.
Build quality is solid, and the factory l**e smooths things out while keeping the bump noticeable. However, the Type R comes a bit over-l**ed, which can make it feel muted or inconsistent. A quick clean and light rel**e bring it to life — sharper bump, cleaner sound, and a more consistent feel.
The switch feels direct and immediate, great for fans of short-travel tactiles that don’t waste motion. It’s not flawless, though — some users (myself included) have noticed occasional chatter or double-inputs over time.
Even with those quirks, I really enjoy the Type R. Once cleaned, its feedback and sound are incredibly satisfying. If you’re after a bold, highly tactile switch that’s full of character — and don’t mind a little tinkering — this one’s absolutely worth checking out.
Final thoughts: The Gateron Type R isn’t perfect, but it’s undeniably fun and full of personality — clacky, punchy, and lively.
