A little late to the party, but here are my top five keyboard picks for 2025. Thank you to all the awesome designers, manufactures and GB runners for getting these awesome boards together and run last year. I know there were setbacks, delays, frustrations and cancellations. Out of the box, the Yuying Linear switch feels exceptionally smooth and well-balanced. The POM stem glides effortlessly inside the PA66 housing, delivering a clean, consistent press with a pleasantly soft bottom-out. Every keystroke feels deliberate and controlled — not too light, not too heavy.

WingTree clearly put thought into the materials and factory lubrication; it’s polished yet natural. This switch doesn’t try too hard — it just works beautifully, making typing an enjoyable, almost rhythmic experience.
If you appreciate subtle refinement over flashiness, this one’s going to make you smile.

🕷️ Plyworks Spyder TKL x HMX Sandstorm — The Perfect Drive 🏎️

Inspired by the Porsche 718, the Plyworks Spyder TKL is a tribute to timeless engineering — classic form, modern ex*****on, and pure mechanical precision. Every angle and curve feels purposeful, designed for both beauty and performance.

Instead of the stock top mount or O-ring mount, I went with the FKM70a NuxrosKB PCBsnap — these replace the O-rings with silicone or FKM “gaskets” placed over the O-ring posts. 🧩 This opens the spacebar region for cleaner acoustics 🎵 while maintaining that signature soft isolation and bounce. The result is a smooth, controlled sound profile that still feels lively under the fingers.

With its 8° typing angle, the Spyder offers a natural, comfortable experience. The raw brass weights add premium heft and resonance, giving each press a confident, satisfying tone. ⚙️ Paired with HMX Sandstorm tactiles, this combo delivers crisp tactility and clacky precision that feels like driving a performance machine.

🔧 Keyboard Specs:
⌨️ Layout: F12 TKL
🧩 Mounting: Top Mount / O-Ring (Used FKM70a NuxrosKB PCBsnap)
🪵 Material: Anodized Aluminum + Raw Brass Weights
⚖️ Weight: 2.1kg (unbuilt) / 2.5kg (built)
🧠 Typing Angle: 8°
📏 Front Height: 18.5mm

🌪️ HMX Sandstorm Specs:
🔹 Type: Tactile
🏭 Maker: HMX
🌿 Stem: POM
💎 Top Housing: PC
🧩 Bottom Housing: PA66
⚖️ Force: 50 ± 2g (operating) / 58 ± 2g (bottom-out)
🚀 Travel: 2.3mm pre / 3.2 ± 0.2mm total
🌀 Spring: 18mm KOS Single-Stage
🛢️ Factory Lubed: Yes (205g0 on stem, spring & leaf)
🎯 Feel: Near D-shaped bump — smooth, snappy, and clacky.

Spyder precision meets Sandstorm tactility — responsive, balanced, and full of character. A true driver’s keyboard for those who appreciate refined performance. 🖤

✨ Yuying Light Tactile Switches by WingTree ✨

A classic, durable, & light tactile switch with a smaller bump — reminiscent of MX Browns — and that signature clacky sound thanks to the long pole stem.

⚙️ Specs:
🔸 Switch Type: Light Tactile
🎨 Designer: WingTree
🏭 Manufacturer: WingTree
🧩 Stem Material: POM
⬆️ Top Housing: PA66
⬇️ Bottom Housing: PA66
💪 Operating Force: 45±2g
⚖️ Bottom-out Force: 58±2g
↔️ Pre-travel: 2.4mm
↕️ Total Travel: 3.7±0.2mm
🧴 Factory Lubed: Yes — stem legs and sliders lightly coated with 205g0, plus l**ed spring & leaf.

💬 The samples I received had some double activation/chatter issues, but according to UniKeys, these were prototype units, and this issue has been fully resolved in the final production run. 🙌

🔊 Great for anyone chasing that smooth, crisp, and lightly tactile experience that’s looking for an alternative to Cherry Switches or someone who just wants to try something new!

I’ve spent some time with the Gateron Type R tactile switch, and it’s easily one of the most unique tactile experiences I’ve had. From the first press, you can tell it’s different — the bump hits instantly with almost no linear travel before or after. Each keystroke feels crisp, snappy, and unapologetically tactile. The sound leans bright and clacky, offering sharp feedback without being harsh. It’s the kind of switch that makes typing feel lively and satisfying.

Build quality is solid, and the factory l**e smooths things out while keeping the bump noticeable. However, the Type R comes a bit over-l**ed, which can make it feel muted or inconsistent. A quick clean and light rel**e bring it to life — sharper bump, cleaner sound, and a more consistent feel.

The switch feels direct and immediate, great for fans of short-travel tactiles that don’t waste motion. It’s not flawless, though — some users (myself included) have noticed occasional chatter or double-inputs over time.

Even with those quirks, I really enjoy the Type R. Once cleaned, its feedback and sound are incredibly satisfying. If you’re after a bold, highly tactile switch that’s full of character — and don’t mind a little tinkering — this one’s absolutely worth checking out.

Final thoughts: The Gateron Type R isn’t perfect, but it’s undeniably fun and full of personality — clacky, punchy, and lively.

Today, we’re taking a closer look at the Wingtree Yunie tactile switch, a new release at that marks Wingtree’s debut in the switch market. The Yunie features a large, P-shaped tactile bump that dominates roughly three-quarters of the total travel distance, finishing with a brief linear section at the end of each keystroke. The overall tactile feel is rounded, satisfying, and pleasantly pronounced without being overly harsh.

In terms of materials, the Yunie tactile switch utilizes a full polycarbonate (PC) housing paired with a UPE stem. Despite expectations of a deeper, “thockier” tone typically associated with UPE stems, these switches instead deliver a full yet clacky sound profile that’s crisp and articulate.

Wingtree’s factory lubrication is carefully and consistently applied to key friction points—including the stem legs, sliders, bottom housing rails, and leaf—effectively reducing unwanted noise or ping. The result is a clean-sounding, smooth tactile switch that feels well-tuned straight out of the box.

The Aiglatson Constance TKL paired with GMK Copper is a beauty to behold. I opted for RAW with Sandblasted Copper and it’s coated to prevent oxidation. GMK Copper round 2 with metallic accents adds a touch of sophistication while the pièce de résistance are the Artisans. Simple yet elegant, a keyboard that's truly unique.
