Today's Verse
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."
— 1 John 1:7 (NIV)

Devotion with Dr. D. Roy Bramwell

The Christian life is a journey, one illuminated by the presence of God. To walk in the light is to align our lives with His truth, rather than to stumble in the shadows of sin and separation. This does not mean a life of absolute perfection, for none can claim to be without sin. Instead, it speaks of a heart devoted to God, led by the Spirit, and molded by His will.

God Himself is light, as we are reminded in 1 John 1:5—there is no darkness in Him. As we follow His radiant path, we are drawn into profound fellowship not only with Him but also with fellow believers. True communion arises when our hearts are attuned to God’s purposes, fostering unity in His love. Though challenges may arise, the shared commitment to His light strengthens the bond among His people.

Yet, even as we walk in the light, we are ever in need of the cleansing power of Christ’s blood. Sin may still enter our lives, but God’s mercy remains steadfast. As 1 John 1:9 assures us, when we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive and to purify us from all unrighteousness. This purification is not a one-time act, but a continuous renewal, ensuring that we truly live as children of the light (1 Thessalonians 5:5).

Let us rejoice in the grace of God, in the fellowship of the saints, and in the unceasing mercy that calls us ever deeper into His marvelous light.

Today's Verse
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
Romans 10:17 NKJV

Devotion with Dr. D. Roy Bramwell

The Apostle Paul emphasizes the profound connection between faith and the Word of God. In Romans 10:14-15, he outlines this divine progression:

1. God sends His messengers to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
2. These messengers go forth and preach the good news.
3. People hear the gospel as it is proclaimed.
4. Some of those who hear receive it with faith.
5. Those who accept it in faith call upon the name of the Lord.

The gospel that is preached is not merely human words but the revealed Word of God, communicated through the inspired writings of Scripture. It must be delivered in this way so that those who hear can understand it. However, because God's Word comes through human language, there will always be some who struggle to accept it for what it truly is.

This is where faith becomes essential. The Word of God must be received with faith to bear fruit. It requires faith to believe that human words can be the actual revelation of divine truth. As Paul writes in Ephesians 2:8-9, *"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."* The Holy Spirit works within the hearts of those who hear, granting them the faith needed to receive the gospel of Jesus Christ as the true Word of God.

While the initial saving faith imparted by the Holy Spirit is a once-in-a-lifetime transformation, our faith should not remain stagnant—it is meant to grow. As we immerse ourselves in the Word of God, our trust in Him deepens, strengthened continually by the Spirit’s work within us.

Let us, therefore, pray the Apostle Paul's prayer in Ephesians, “asking God to fill us with His Spirit—the Spirit of wisdom and revelation" (Ephesians 1:17)—so that our faith may flourish, and we may know Him ever more deeply.
