In 2015, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán shocked the world after escaping from one of Mexico’s most secure prisons for the second time in his life. His disappearance triggered a massive international manhunt and raised serious questions about how such an elaborate escape could happen inside a maximum-security facility.
After nearly six months as a fugitive, Guzmán was captured again following a raid by Mexican forces. His days of escaping prison eventually came to an end when he was extradited to the United States, convicted, and sent to ADX Florence, where he remains under some of the strictest prison conditions in the world.
