🍤 Smothered Shrimp & Rice

Juicy shrimp simmered in a rich, creamy Cajun-style sauce and served over fluffy white rice. Savory, buttery, and perfect for a comforting Southern dinner.

🛒 Ingredients:

For the Shrimp:

* 1½ lbs large shrimp, peeled and deveined
* 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
* 1 tsp garlic powder
* 1 tsp smoked paprika
* ½ tsp onion powder
* ½ tsp black pepper
* 1 tbsp olive oil
* 1 tbsp butter

For the Smothered Sauce:

* 3 tbsp butter
* 4 garlic cloves, minced
* ½ small onion, finely diced
* 1 cup heavy cream
* ½ cup chicken or seafood broth
* ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
* 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
* ½ tsp smoked paprika
* ½ tsp dried parsley
* ¼ tsp red pepper flakes, optional
* 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
* Salt and black pepper, to taste

For Serving:

* 3–4 cups cooked white rice
* Chopped parsley, for garnish

👩‍🍳 Directions:

1. Pat the shrimp dry and season with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, and black pepper.

2. Heat the olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

3. Add the shrimp and cook for about 1–2 minutes per side, just until lightly browned. Remove and set aside.

4. Reduce the heat to medium and melt the remaining butter in the same skillet.

5. Add the diced onion and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened.

6. Stir in the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

7. Pour in the broth and scrape up any flavorful browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.

8. Add the heavy cream, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, dried parsley, and red pepper flakes.

9. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 3–5 minutes until the sauce starts to thicken.

10. Stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.

11. Return the shrimp to the skillet and gently toss in the sauce. Simmer for another 1–2 minutes, just until the shrimp are heated through.

12. Finish with fresh lemon juice and adjust salt and black pepper to taste.

13. Spoon hot white rice onto each plate and generously smother with the creamy shrimp and sauce.

14. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.

💡 Pro Tip: Don’t fully cook the shrimp during the first sear. They’ll finish in the sauce, which keeps them tender and juicy.
