What is Catching Dinosaurs Alligator Gar conservation? I have always had a fascination with toothy fish, the more teeth the better the more misunderstood the better. The first time i saw an alligator gar i was 11 years old i spent a solid week trying to

catch 5-6 footers and then came face to face with a true giant while canoeing the river. The gar I found that day started a life time of passion for these fish. I have spent the last 10 years devoting myself to learning everything i could about catch and release angling for this species and how to help the conservation of alligator gar. Three smoker kings, two jacks and a dozen Spanish mackerel caught off the jetties from my little 18 foot boat. My son Marlin has been trying to get his first kingfish for a couple of years and we finally managed it. He even managed to land a king on his 4000 shimano stratic.

My goal with alligator gar fishing has always been to promote their conservation by any means. That has meant tagging programs and lobbying for regulation changes and often times it means promoting the safest and most up to date rigging and gar handling methods for catch and release fishing. I have been testing the gar saver/gar blocker rig for nearly a year and have not had to cut a hook off in a deep hooked gar since. This method of rigging when done correctly can almost 100% ensure no gar will be deep hooked while allowing you to set the hook in the first 10-20 seconds of the run making fishing for them just like any other fish, you get a bite you get ready you set the hook and hold on! This page exists to promote conservation of alligator gar through legislation changes, and education of the future generations. My goal is to get these fish a game fish status ending bow fishing for the species, i also aim to teach EVERYONE how they can safely catch and release these fish on rod and reel without hurting them.
