A mysterious bright feature appears on the Moon’s heavily cratered surface, casting an unusually long and sharply defined shadow across the surrounding terrain. The dramatic lighting comes from the Sun being low above the lunar horizon, making even relatively small changes in elevation appear enormous.

Lunar impacts can produce flashes, excavated material, and temporary clouds of v***r and debris. In some documented lunar impacts, telescopic observations have detected elements such as sodium and lithium released into the extremely thin lunar environment. NASA’s Voyager 1: A Mission That Refuses to Give Up

More than four decades after its launch, NASA’s Voyager 1 continues its incredible journey through interstellar space. The spacecraft is now billions of miles from Earth, operating in an environment where every signal takes many hours to travel between the spacecraft and mission control.

One of the major challenges has been keeping Voyager’s aging attitude-control system functioning. NASA engineers recently worked to redirect spacecraft operations toward backup thrusters after concerns that the primary thrusters were becoming less effective due to decades of use and accumulated residue.

What makes Voyager 1 truly remarkable is that engineers are controlling a spacecraft launched in 1977, using technology designed more than 40 years ago, from an enormous distance across the solar system.

Voyager 1 has already traveled farther from Earth than any other human-made spacecraft. Its journey provides scientists with unique measurements of the space beyond the Sun’s protective bubble and continues to teach us about the environment between the stars. 🌌

NASA has now confirmed more than 6,360 exoplanets—worlds orbiting stars beyond our Sun—and the number continues to grow as astronomers discover new planetary systems across the galaxy.

Each confirmed exoplanet represents another piece of the cosmic puzzle. Some are enormous gas giants, while others may be rocky worlds more similar to Earth. They orbit stars ranging from small, cool red dwarfs to stars much hotter and brighter than our Sun.

What makes this discovery especially fascinating is that the 6,360+ confirmed worlds are only the beginning. Thousands of additional candidates still require further observations and confirmation. With powerful observatories such as the James Webb Space Telescope studying distant planetary atmospheres, scientists are getting closer to understanding what these worlds are made of—and whether some could have conditions suitable for life.
