I was driving through Cambridge the other day and saw a Mom and her daughter in the field with the sheep. I am a true believer that we should remember our veterans and active service men and women ALL the time, not just on Memorial Day or Veterans Day. Hick's Memorials, located just off of Rt 149 in Granville, NY, does an outstanding job of remembering the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms! Please remember these dedicated business owners when the time comes to choose a memorial for a loved one. It's all about keeping it LOCAL, folks!

I like to think that Spring is here, so I made a stop at a local greenhouse to start thinking about my spring planting and flowers. The greenhouse is overflowing with plants....lots of geraniums starting to bud and plenty of hanging baskets. Keegan Perry, owner of Perrywinkles, says that plants will be ready for Mother's Day, so stop by and see what Mom will like. (Or Grandma, or best friend, or that special person you want to remember)! Keegan is located on Rt. 40 between Argyle and Greenwich....across the road from the Auction Barn Diner!

The Salem Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a Bike Ride on June 15th, 2014! There are 3 rides scheduled, a 16, 25, and 63 mile ride!! The ride is known as "The Salem Tour de Flame Fighters" and money raised from this event will go towards the construction of the fire department's new firehouse! Their web site is www.tourdesalemflamefighters.com The Wise Shopper is also contributing to this construction project. We will be running monthly "Shop Local" ads with a portion of the ad cost being donated directly to the Salem Volunteer Fire Department! The first Shop Local will run the first week of May.
