Spirit Awards

In 1995, Strictly Country began the Spirit Awards. An awards show presented to the entertainers by the fans in appreciation for all of their hard work. The staff, utilizing it's theme as an equal opportunity publication, felt it was necessary to start an awards show to promote this theme. Any country music entertainer who shall perform and or appear within a designated area will be nominated. Then once a year, fans are given the opportunity to vote for the winners. This awards program has been a success from the beginning. It has since proved that the fan's choice is far more important than the industries. Fight For The Future Charities

Strictly Country believes in making the world a better place. Therefore, at the turn of the millennium we established Fight For The Future Charities. This program gives us the opportunity to help various non-profit organizations with the generosity of many entertainers in country music. We raise funds with the sale of donated items from entertainers in country music. One hundred percent of the proceeds is then given to the non-profit organization of our choice. This month in 2015, Trey Anastasio introduced Kenny Rogers as a special surprise guest on Phish's festival-closing set at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival to perform "The Gambler." The crowd welcomed KR with loud chants of "Kenny! Kenny! Kenny!" See the vid: https://rb.gy/zvkw2j -Team KR

The Academy is mourning the loss of Joe Bonsall, a member of the ACM Award-winning group The Oak Ridge Boys for 50 years. Celebrated for their distinctive four-part harmonies, The Oak Ridge Boys (Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall, William Lee Golden, and Richard Sterban) received four ACM Awards, including prizes for Top Vocal Group, Album of the Year for Ya’ll Come Back Saloon, and Single Record of the Year for “Elvira.” In 2007, they were honored with the ACM Pioneer Award. In addition, they are members of both the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Please join the Academy in sending love and healing to his Oak Ridge band mates, as well as his family, friends, and fans.

Joe Bonsall was one of the kindest people I ever met. He was a rock star, and he was a wonderful human being. RIP Joe.

Along with the rest of the world, I was saddened this morning to learn of the passing of the multi-talented Joe Bonsall.

Joe was a great singer, the consummate performer, and a dear friend. We not only had country music in common, but he loved baseball just as much as I do, and we had many a friendly discussion as to which was the better team...his Philadelphia Phillies or my Atlanta Braves. I won't say any money ever changed hands, but I won't deny it either.

I will think of Joe and miss him with every high note I hear sung and every crack of the bat that echoes across the summer skies. Rest in peace, my friend. You were truly one-of-a-kind.
