Chaos Night 2026 - my view from behind the decks.

Another great year! This year's underclassmen are awesome - this felt like one of the largest and loudest turnouts for Chaos Night in recent memory. The energy was kinetic and palpable, even with the humidity off-the-charts in the building.

This was my 20th year DJing Chaos Night (formerly Chaos Day) for Calvin and the second year in a row that BHT took the trophy! I spent ~15 years watching BHT coming in last or next-to-last, but it's always cool to see who will be the next underdog residence hall to take the crown.

Last year, a wonderful young man swooped in and took my camera during Chaos Night and captured some amazing video footage. At the end of the night he dropped off my camera and disappeared - before I could even get his name or contact information. I missed him last night and would have loved his hands to get better up-close footage during the event.

Hopefully he's out there somewhere and magically shows up for Chaos Night 2027!

March is a difficult month for me.

I lost my job without warning in March - twice.
Been abandoned and ghosted by the personal and professional networks I had built around me when I needed them.
I learned my lifelong best friend was dying, and the last time I saw him was that month, in March.

I wrote this song nearly 20 years ago, but today it's finally fully realized. The message starts in that dark place, but it doesn't end there. At the end there is a response - a reminder that even when we feel too broken or lost to continue, there is a voice reaching through the noise.

If you're ever felt the weight of inner ashes, I hope this song meets you where you are and reminds you that you aren't alone.
