Try to spend today being quiet. Pray the Lord’s Prayer at bedtime on this night in remembrance of Christ’s gift for all of salvation.

On Holy Thursday, we remember how Jesus showed his humility and love by washing the feet of each apostle. While many Holy Thursday Masses include this tradition, it’s also something you can do at home!

1) Plan which family member will wash whose feet. Talk about how feet washing shows service to others.

2) Set up a chair, bowl of water, and a towel in a place where the whole family can participate. Begin with the Sign of the Cross.

3) Read John 13:1-17 aloud. Then take turns washing one another’s feet. Finish with a prayer calling on Jesus to help us serve others.

4) Talk with your family about what it was like to wash feet and have your feet washed!

At Thanksgiving we thank God for many blessings and gifts. At Christmas, we try to imitate God’s generosity by giving gifts ourselves.

We find much pleasure in giving Christmas gifts to our children 🎁 Our awards are not in receiving equally expensive gifts in return, but in the joyful smiles on the faces of our kids!

However, keeping the emphasis on the birth of Jesus during the remaining days before Christmas is equally as difficult for both adults and children, especially as the secular and commercial side of Christmas actually begins even before Thanksgiving Day.
