There were a few directions we could have taken with Abbey and Mete’s highlight film. The grandeur of Istanbul and the beauty of Çırağan Palace can carry a film all on their own. But once we left Turkey, we knew we could go much deeper. The beauty would speak for itself. So what story could we tell that really shows who Abbey and Mete are? Who their family is?
This carousel picks up after the recap intro, and it slows down on purpose.
Mete opened his vows in Turkish - completely natural to him, and as an editor, I loved it immediately. It was the perfect way to introduce our Turkish groom. And the specific words he chose, “Abbey, my dear Love” (yes, we learned a little Turkish for this edit) dove us straight into the heart of this love story. He continued by talking about her family and the bond they share. That sequence is probably one of my favorites I’ve ever put together, because if there’s anything I love more than beautiful settings, it’s introducing the viewer to beautiful people.
That thread runs through their entire film. Family. The serendipity of falling for someone whose background looks nothing like yours, and finding that love is the common language anyway. Sacrificial love - “I will go anywhere and everywhere for you.” And humor - “How are we gonna do the dance? I DON’T KNOW.”
