Beginning in fall 2027, college students from six Alabama counties will qualify for Tennessee Tech University in-state tuition rate: Madison, Limestone, Morgan, Lawrence, Lauderdale and Jackson counties, saving more than $2,000 per semester.

The groundbreaking marks a milestone in a difficult transition for local health care. When the plan was announced in 2025, Lawrence Medical Center’s board decided to end inpatient care and close its emergency department while focusing its resources on outpatient services.

The 10,000-square-foot building at 15445 Alabama Highway 24 will offer extended-hours urgent care, CT and MRIscans, 3D mammography, lab services and respiratory therapy. It will also have a community room and space to support continued physician and provider recruitment. The 20-acre site leaves room for future expansion.

The book fair will be hosted on Oct. 26 from 7 to 10p.m. at Straight to Ale.

The Books & Brews & Boos book fair is free to access for all to join in the spooky, bookish fun. Early access tickets are available to shop the fair before the crowds from 6 to 7 p.m. for those who just can’t wait.
