This is what nobody tells you⬇️

Every task you do for your child, that they could do for themselves, is a withdrawal from their confidence and a deposit into your exhaustion.

Both of you lose.

There is a shift happening in homes across the country.
Parents are waking up to something.

Their children are more capable than they have been allowed to be.

And it is time to change that.

It does not have to happen all at once.

One task.
Taught slowly.
Supported fully.
Then handed off completely.

Like scaffolding. I support (and do) while they learn…

I do 90% of a task, my child does 10%.
Then the shift happens - I do 75% and my child does 25%.
And their confidence grows- I do 40% and my child does 60%.
Then I do 10% and my child goes on with the 90%.
And then, I finally hand that task over to them.

It is theirs now.
——

✨Because on the other side of that process?

What once lived in my head now holds in their capable hands.

A child who knows they are capable, and are now more confident.

A mom whose mornings finally move without me managing, remembering and reminding every piece.

A home that does not fall apart when I stop scrambling to do everything.

That is what this work actually builds.

❤️You can do it…. Your children are ready.

❔not sure where to start?
I built a list for you.

35 areas where you are currently carrying the load that you’re home and your children are completely ready to hold itself.

Do THIS when someone reaches out ⬇️

In a world that glamorizes hustle and busy (!!) the best, most precious thing you can give any person is… your attention.

So when a friend reaches out about an event, a fundraiser or shares a vulnerable update- respond to them. And (because I’m being honest) do it promptly.

It can be hard to ask.

But Jamie, does it have to be a paragraph long? No. (But you can)

Do you have to donate $1000? No. (But you can)

Do we have to donate $10? No. (But you can)

Being on this end (the inviting/asking/educating end) I wonder if folks just don’t know what to say??

And I get that- it can be hard!

(Maybe I should do a post on phrases and ways to respond when someone reaches out? Maybe? )

🚨So, please, keep in the front of your mind that this friend… she is stretching out from her comfort zone because this is *very* important to her…

🤍Every email, every text is putting her into a corner of her brain she intentionally avoids. 🤍

Because the reality is:
There are moments that are scary
There are moments that are sad
There are moments that are frustrating
And there are moments that are lonely

❤️So give her your attention, answer what she is asking, donate if/when you can and cheer for her.

Because that is what community does.

Rule of thumb: Respond how you would want someone to respond to YOU.

That’s how a village shows up and how the world is made better… when we see and love on people around us!
