I’m pleased to announce that Christina Marsh and Shelly Danner have joined me in helping tell your stories.

As my page has grown, it’s become clear that I can’t be everywhere at once. I’m not able to regularly search groups, comments, and messages to seek out every situation that deserves attention — and that’s where they come in.

Both Christina and Shelly have loved ones incarcerated within TDCJ. They understand the system from the family side, and that perspective has always mattered in my coverage — even in moments where I may have struggled to fully understand it myself as former staff. And now they formally serve as a liaison between you and me — a path to get your situation seen and evaluated for coverage.

I also want to acknowledge something openly: some people don’t fully trust me because of my background as former staff. That’s not unfair. It’s a reality I recognize, respect, understand, and appreciate. Having advocates who come from the family perspective matters.

You can reach them directly at:

A Denton County jury trial is scheduled to begin January 26 for Karlton Dudley, a former Texas Department of Criminal Justice correctional officer, in connection with the death of his wife, Sarah Dudley.

Dudley, 37, was arrested in 2023 and charged with abuse of a co**se after Sarah Dudley, 32, was found dead in Lake Lewisville, according to prior reporting by CBS News Texas. She had been reported missing several days earlier after failing to appear for work, prompting concern from family members and others close to her.

Sarah Dudley’s body was discovered by a recreational boater. Authorities later alleged that Dudley transported and concealed her remains following her death, with investigators focusing on his actions after she was reported missing, which ultimately led to his arrest.

Before Sarah Dudley’s death, Dudley was already awaiting a grand jury decision in Collin County related to an allegation of aggravated sexual assault of a child. He was later indicted in that case. The allegation and subsequent indictment were not connected to the homicide case but were part of Dudley’s broader criminal history at the time.

FOX 4 has reported that Dudley was previously employed by TDCJ as a correctional officer from September 2007 to August 2016 and worked at the Gurney Unit near Palestine.

Individuals familiar with the case have said Sarah Dudley had mental disabilities, a detail included in earlier coverage of her disappearance and death. Authorities have not publicly stated whether that information is expected to factor into trial proceedings.

SHE PICKED UP INMATE, BROUGHT HIM FOOD, DROVE AROUND IN A LOOP WHILE HE ATE IT, AND BROUGHT HIM BACK-ARRESTED FOR ASSISTING ESCAPE: On Jan. 9, 2026, Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested Quamesha Neshea Ellis, 44, following an investigation into an inmate’s unauthorized departure from a local facility.

Authorities allege that at 6:45 a.m., the inmate, Freddy Burgess, was dropped off at an authorized facility, but at approximately 6:49 a.m., Ellis picked up Burgess in her vehicle.

According to the affidavit, Ellis admitted she had visited the location multiple times to bring Burgess food and personal property. She reportedly told investigators that she would drive Burgess in loops around the facility while he ate in her car before dropping him back off at the building.

Deputies intercepted Ellis during a traffic stop at 8:38 a.m. and took her into custody.

Ellis reportedly admitted to deputies she knew the actions were "not a good decision."

She was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on a charge of Assisting Escape. Bond was set at $2,000.

A Texas Department of Criminal Justice sergeant assigned to the Telford Unit was photographed appearing to sleep while on duty in October 2025, according to an employee source.

The photo was taken while the sergeant was accompanying an inmate at a hospital. No additional details about the circumstances surrounding the image have been confirmed.

The image was provided to the TDCJ Independent Ombudsman and other agency officials. No response was received.

A recent circulation of unrelated photos showing officers appearing to sleep while on duty has renewed attention on staff alertness during inmate transports and off-unit assignments.

Concerns surrounding transport supervision intensified following the 2022 escape of Gonzalo Lopez. Lopez escaped custody during a transport and was later killed by law enforcement after allegedly murdering a family of five in Leon County. That case prompted heightened scrutiny of transport procedures and supervision within the agency.

Details remain limited, and no further information has been confirmed.
