Some news! Today is my last day at WAAY but I'm not leaving the Rocket City! I'll be starting a new adventure outside of TV, but I'll forever be a weather we**ie. Who knows, this page may even become more active. I'll need an outlet when the weather itch hits! 😢🤚

A farewell to my pal Rob Elvington WAAY 31! I’ve truly enjoyed working alongside this stellar meteorologist over the last 3 years- we’ve endured those difficult early mornings, a pandemic, and even entered parenthood! Good news is, he’s staying on the area and will be around to help our weather team- bad news is our shenanigans now have to wait until we can gather our families on the weekend! 😆 Thanks for the memories- glad our news worlds collided- even if you are younger & from NC! Best of luck on your new adventure ☀️

The stagnant August weather pattern continues Thursday through the start of next week. Highs remain in the low to mid 90s with feels like temperature approaching 100. Pop-up isolated to scattered storms are possible each afternoon and evening, though most will stay dry each day through Saturday.

Rain chances trend higher starting Sunday but widespread rain likely holds off until the middle of next workweek.

A nearly stationary cold front is slowly approaching north Alabama and will finally arrive Saturday. This front is bringing much needed rain and also relief from the heat. Severe storms are unlikely this weekend but not impossible Saturday and Sunday. Another concern is localized flooding from repeated rounds of heavy rain from thunderstorms. High rain chances remain through Sunday with the weekend rainfall amounts between 1-2" and locally higher.

Much higher rain chances begin Friday and remain through this weekend, with the approach of a slow moving cold front from out of Tennessee. Storms are expected to start impacting our Southern Tennessee counties starting Friday at breakfast time and become more widespread throughout North Alabama starting at around lunchtime. Storm chances stay in the forecast through bedtime. This much needed rain will also bring relief from the heat. Friday's high temperatures will only reach to 90 and with more rain expected on Saturday, we will only rise to the upper 80s.
