A 10-year-old boy became a hero when he shielded his little sister from falling debris during a deadly plane crash in Philadelphia.
Andre โTreyโ Howard III was out getting doughnuts with his father and siblings when a medical transport jet crashed near Roosevelt Mall.
Suddenly, debris began falling from the sky.
In the middle of the chaos, Trey saw the danger and immediately told his younger sister to get down.
Then he grabbed her and covered her with his own body.
Moments later, a piece of debris struck Trey, leaving him seriously injured.
His father rushed to help while a Good Samaritan stopped and offered his shirt to assist until emergency care was available.
Doctors performed urgent surgery and Trey's family was warned that he might not survive. But the young boy kept fighting.
When Trey finally woke up, one of his first questions wasn't about himself.
โDaddy, did I save my sister?โ
His father told him yes. Trey had protected her. Thanks to his bravery his sister escaped without injury.
As he continued recovering at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, support poured in from the community.
Doctors initially feared Trey might never walk again, but his family says he continues making progress.
His father now calls him his hero.
In a moment of terrifying danger, a 10-year-old boy thought about his little sister before himself.
That is courage and the best big brother ever.
