Huntsville earlier this evening. This is scud, not a tornado. Scud forms when warm, humid air is lifted into the cool outflow beneath a thunderstorm, creating ragged, low cloud fragments.

While scud can look intimidating and is often mistaken for a funnel cloud, it lacks the organized, persistent rotation that characterizes a tornado. Totally harmless. Photo from Cenzley Williss

⚠️ North Alabama Weather Update – Monday Storm Potential

The latest runs of the HRRR model continue to show significant differences in both the timing and track of a cluster of thunderstorms expected to move toward North Alabama on Monday. At this point, confidence in the model’s exact solution remains low, so I wouldn’t rely on any one forecast run just yet.

What does appear increasingly likely is that a cluster of heavy showers and thunderstorms will impact portions of North Alabama sometime Monday. The biggest challenge right now is determining exactly when they arrive and which areas will see the heaviest rainfall and strongest storms.

Once storms begin developing after midnight near the Ohio River Valley, we’ll have a much clearer picture of how they evolve and where they’re headed. Until then, expect forecast adjustments as new data becomes available.

Feeling good today, got a good report from the doctor. I feel blessed; hope everyone’s having a good day.

🌎 EARTH MOVED: SURFACE RUPTURE DOCUMENTED IN VENEZUELA 🌎

A remarkable example of the power of earthquakes has been captured in La Guaira State, Venezuela, where geologists documented 22 inches (57 cm) of right-lateral horizontal displacement along a fault segment following the June 24 earthquake.

📏 The photo clearly shows the ground shifted sideways, with evidence suggesting a small amount of vertical displacement may have occurred as well.

⚠️ While a 22-inch offset is significant, it is only a fraction of the movement observed along the main San Sebastián Fault, where the earthquake produced up to 12 feet (4 meters) of surface displacement in some locations.

Events like this serve as a powerful reminder that earthquakes don’t just shake the ground—they can permanently reshape the landscape in a matter of seconds.

BAVI: Super Typhoon Bavi in the Pacific is now packing sustained winds of 180 mph. It is nearing the island of Rota in the Mariana Island chain.

Extremely dangerous situation with potential for catastrophic damage.
