Candi Briley Inducted into the Heartland Association of Fairs, Festivals & Events Hall of South Dakota Hall of Fame

HURON, SD – The Heartland Association of Fairs, Festivals & Events (HAFFE) is honored to announce the induction of Candi Briley, Assistant Manager of the South Dakota State Fair, into the HAFFE Hall of Fame. The award will be presented this evening at the Huron Event Center during the association’s annual convention, with SD State Fair Manager Peggy Besch presenting the honor.

Briley has served the South Dakota State Fair for 19 years, beginning as a 2006 intern before becoming Marketing Director in 2007 and advancing to Assistant Manager in 2016. Her leadership has strengthened operations, broadened programming, and enhanced the experience for exhibitors, guests, and partners alike.

Her service includes decades of involvement in major fair initiatives such as the SD BBQ Championships Committee, Wheel Jam Committee, DEX and SHED fundraising committees, National Junior High Finals Rodeo Host Committee, and National Red Power Round Up Host Committee. She has also contributed to numerous special projects and community events throughout her career.

Briley has been an active leader within HAFFE, serving on the Board of Directors from 2019–2025, including terms as President and Past President. She has represented South Dakota at IAFE Zone 4 meetings, the IAFE Convention, the Rocky Mountain Association of Fairs Convention, and multiple professional development programs. She earned her IAFE Institute of Fair Management degree in 2021.

A graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead, Briley is originally from Wessington Springs. She and her husband, Jason, have a daughter, Blakely, and stepchildren Will, Rusty, and Alex. She is active in her church, serves on the Christian Learning Center Board, and was named the 2010 Fair Person of the Year by SDAFC.

Candi Briley is recognized for her exceptional dedication, collaborative leadership, and unwavering commitment to the fair industry. HAFFE proudly celebrates her induction into the Hall of Fame and honors her lasting impact on fairs and festivals throughout the region.

GFP Seeking Comments on Draft Chronic Wasting Disease Action Plan

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) is reviewing and revising the 2025 Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Action Plan.

The CWD Action Plan assesses the risk of the disease for cervid populations in South Dakota, determines ways to address the disease, and implements future management steps when populations require.

The draft CWD Action Plan can be found online at gfp.sd.gov/management-plans/.

Individuals interested in the CWD Action Plan for South Dakota may provide suggestions and comments on the revised action plan by December 22, 2025.
