Hutto 8U youth baseball team advances to World Series

The Hutto Hippos 8U youth baseball team is headed to the PONY World Series in Youngsville, Louisiana, after finishing as a finalist in the regional tournament held in Pflugerville. The Hippos earned their spot with an 11-4 win over the CAYL Heat. Tournament play begins later this month, where Hutto will compete against some of the top teams in the nation.

Hutto volleyball releases 2025 schedule

The Hutto High School varsity volleyball team recently released its 2025โ€“26 schedule as the start of the regular season approaches.

The Hippos will open the season on the road against Georgetown Gateway College Preparatory on Aug. 12 before competing in the Westwood Tournament from Aug. 14โ€“16.

Hutto ISD faces $3.5 million budget deficit

Council members old, new hold first session together

The City Council welcomed two new members and said good-bye to its lone female representative at a special-called meeting Wednesday.

Jim Morris was sworn in to Place 3, filling the unexpired term of Randal Clark. Aaron King took the Place 6 seat on the dais, replacing incumbent Amberley Kolar.

Hippos impress at state 7-on-7 tournament

The Hutto Hippos varsity football team competed in a 7-on-7 tournament Tuesday, June 10, in College Station. The Hippos advanced to the state tournament for the first time in six years after qualifying through the state qualifiers.

The Hippos dominated pool play, going undefeated.

King, Long, Morris unofficially win runoff races

Runoff elections this past weekend led to a trio of victories for city council races in Taylor and Hutto.

Pending an official canvass of the votes, Heather Pacharzina Long is the new District 4 representative on the Taylor City Council, while Jim Morris and Aaron King will take the seats for Hutto City Council Places 3 and 6, respectively.

City wants Justice Center plans reined in

The City Council asked consultants for the proposed Justice Center to take a step back and scale down its recommendations after being presented with options costing from $56.4 million to $149.6 million.

Some of the reductions revolve around the size of a new police facility.

Council members during the Thursday meeting were told the costs included a 10- to 20-year phasing-in for completing the build-out but did not include land acquisition.

Hutto ISD nets top music award

The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation has named the Hutto Independent School District as one of the 2025 Best Communities for Music Education.

This is the second time the district has received the nationwide distinction, with the first accolade in 2021.

Report: More people, less crime in Hutto

Even as the cityโ€™s population increases, Hutto saw a significant drop in some crime categories during the first quarter of the year, according to a report heard by City Council last week.

Also during the May 15 session, a familiar battle questioning Councilman Randal Clarkโ€™s residency came to the forefront again, sparking a war of words between Clark and Councilman Evan Porterfield.
