Amelia was one of the names sent in by multiple people and Executive Director Mertz said it was fitting. “Amelia Earhart was brave and strong and of course there’s the flight thing too,” he said. Some of the wildlife center staff wanted in on the naming action too, with veterinary technician Meaghan Still suggesting "Geese Witherspoon." Cape Wildlife Center

After the story of Arnold the goose and his devoted mate went wild on Facebook, name suggestions came flooding in to the Cape Wildlife Center.

"We decided to let him (Arnold) recover on the ground and get his oxygen there. And when we did, and we opened the door, both geese calmed down. And the mate actually stuck her neck in and began to preen him and take care of him. And it was just the sweetest thing you've ever seen."

Can geese be in love? It's hard to pooh-pooh that idea after seeing the bond between Arnold, an injured Canada goose, and his mate.

Central to A Community Thrives, and Gannett Foundation, is this elevation of local nonprofit groups and communities, Gannett Gannett CEO Mike Reed said. “Our driving mission is to empower our communities. It’s at the core of what we do,” Reed said. “The strength of our network gives us the ability to support local efforts across the country, particularly underserved groups.”

Many organizations can get a helping hand this year by applying to the 2021 A Community Thrives program, a $2.3M initiative of the Gannett Foundation.

Big news music fans...The Levitate Music Festival is back on!
A scaled-down version of the annual event will take place Saturday, Aug. 7 and Sunday, Aug. 8 at the Marshfield Fairgrounds, featuring regional and local acts, artisan and craft vendors and area food trucks. The first of two consecutive supermoons this year will rise tonight. While it's known as the pink moon, it's not because of a rosy hue. According to the The Old Farmers Almanac, April’s full moon often corresponded with the early springtime blooms of a certain pink wildflower native to eastern North America - Phlox subulata. Other names for this month's full moon NASA says, include the sprouting grass moon, the egg moon, and among coastal tribes of North America, the fish moon, because this was when the shad swam upstream to spawn. Next month's supermoon will light up the night sky on May 26.

The final week of April will kick off with a full moon, known this month as the pink moon. Plus, it's a supermoon!
