Amelia was one of the names sent in by multiple people and Executive Director Mertz said it was fitting. “Amelia Earhart was brave and strong and of course there’s the flight thing too,” he said. Some of the wildlife center staff wanted in on the naming action too, with veterinary technician Meaghan Still suggesting "Geese Witherspoon." Cape Wildlife Center

After the story of Arnold the goose and his devoted mate went wild on Facebook, name suggestions came flooding in to the Cape Wildlife Center.

"We decided to let him (Arnold) recover on the ground and get his oxygen there. And when we did, and we opened the door, both geese calmed down. And the mate actually stuck her neck in and began to preen him and take care of him. And it was just the sweetest thing you've ever seen."

Can geese be in love? It's hard to pooh-pooh that idea after seeing the bond between Arnold, an injured Canada goose, and his mate.
