South West Told to Vote Biya as CPDM Opens Campaign in Buea

The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) officially launched its presidential campaign in the South West Region on Saturday, September 27, with Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, calling on Southwesterners to rally behind President Paul Biya in the October 12 polls to guarantee the continuity of multi-billion FCFA development projects in the region.

Speaking at the Buea launch, the Prime Minister cited flagship projects such as the reconstruction of the National Oil Refining Company (SONARA), which began on September 15 and is estimated at over FCFA 300 billion, and the ongoing construction of major road networks, including the Bangem–Nguti road and the Kumba–Ekondo T**i highway.

He also mentioned government plans to retool CDC, Pamol Plantations PLC, and UNVDA to boost agro-industrial productivity under the second phase of the Presidential Reconstruction and Development Plan for the North West and South West.

“We have to ensure that our champion is re-elected,” Dion Ngute told the crowd. “President Paul Biya has always placed his confidence in the South West Region and has given the necessary attention to its development. SONARA is being rebuilt right here, and there is nothing like it being transferred to Kribi.”

Akere Muna Pledges Five-Year Transition, Democratic Reforms as He Starts Campaign in Tiko

Barrister Akere Muna, presidential candidate and renowned anti-corruption advocate, officially launched his 2025 campaign in Tiko on Saturday, September 27, pledging to rebuild Cameroon on the foundations of federalism, accountability, and democratic renewal.

Addressing a charged crowd, Muna described Tiko as a symbolic and historic starting point, stressing that his vision for a “new republic” must begin at the roots of Cameroon’s federal history.

The former Bar Association president lamented the decline of once-bustling towns in the South West, citing Tiko, Victoria, Buea, and Tombel as examples of communities stripped of their industries and infrastructure due to corruption and neglect.

“People should stop stealing the money of this country. They steal the money, burn down the refinery, can’t even rebuild it. What kind of rubbish is this? It must stop. Cameroonians must get their country back,” he said to thunderous applause.

SDF Launches Campaign in Bamenda Amid Cheers and Symbolic Blessings

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) officially launched its presidential campaign on Saturday in Bamenda, the city where the party was founded, with party chairman Hon. Joshua Osih braving security challenges in the North West Region to kick off the race.

With nearly seven hundred thousand (700,000) registered voters, the North West remains a critical battleground, and by choosing Bamenda for the launch, the SDF accentuated both its historic roots and determination to hold firm in a region long central to its political identity.

Addressing the crowd, Osih thanked his supporters and outlined the party’s manifesto, anchored on justice, accountability, peace, and federalism. He urged voters to remain calm and focused as the October 12 election draws closer.

The significant launch in Bamenda - SDF’s birthplace, reinforces the party’s message of resilience and continuity as it seeks to reclaim its influence in Cameroon’s political landscape.

Here is the speech Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika made after being elected president of the republic of Malawi.

On behalf of Justice Dr Jane Ansah and myself, I thank you, the people of Malawi, for entrusting us with the responsibility to lead this nation for the next five years. This is not a victory for an individual or a party. It is a victory for our democracy, for our Constitution, and most importantly, for every Malawian who believes in a better tomorrow. More than 5.5 million Malawians turned out to vote. That is a powerful statement of hope, of civic responsibility, and of national unity. Your voice has been heard. Your vote has counted. Your will has prevailed.

To my brother, Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, I commend you for your gracious concession. You have demonstrated statesmanship, and your commitment to Malawi’s peace and democratic values deserves the highest respect. I thank you.

To the Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, and the entire team of commissioners and staff, we applaud your professionalism and integrity. You have presided over this important national process with clarity, transparency and dignity. Malawi is proud of your service.

To the supporters of the Democratic Progressive Party across the country, your dedication, energy and loyalty brought us here. I also extend heartfelt appreciation to our alliance partners from the Alliance for Democracy, the Liberation for Economic Freedom and the National Development Party. Together we built a movement that has captured the confidence of the nation.

To the media, thank you for your responsible reporting throughout the electoral period. Your professionalism helped to inform and empower the electorate while promoting peace and order.

Fellow Malawians,
The time for competition has ended. The time for cooperation has begun. Politics has played its part. Now the work of national transformation must take centre stage. Today I call upon every Malawian, regardless of region, political party or background, to join hands as we chart a new path forward. This is the moment to put aside what divides us and embrace what unites us. We are one nation. One people. One destiny.

The challenges before us are real. Our economy must recover. Food must be available for everyone. Jobs must be created. Our healthcare and education systems must be strengthened. Infrastructure must be improved. And above all, we must rebuild trust in our public institutions. But I have no doubt. We will rise to the challenge. With unity, discipline and hard work, Malawi will move forward again. And this time, we will move forward together. In the coming days we will begin the transition process and unveil our recovery and development plan. Our new administration will reflect our commitment to prudence, inclusion, competence and
delivery.

Let us begin this new chapter with hope, with humility and with renewed purpose. The Malawi we want is possible. Let us build it together.

May God bless you.
May God bless the Republic of Malawi.
Zikomo kwambiri. Thank you
