event videography tips Wellness Haus | Online & IRL
1. Shoot a walk and talk
If the event host has a free minute, maybe during lunch, take them outside for a curated walk and talk where the founder can discuss their “why” or mission statement behind the event. This video can be the foundation of your sizzle recap.
PSA: if you’re a Videographer walking backwards through the streets of New York, have a spotter behind you to make sure you don’t bump into anything or walk into traffic
2. Shoot panels like a podcast
Come prepared to film any panels like a podcast with multiple camera angles. The money is in the close-ups, which make the best social media reels
3. Give the location some love
Don’t forget to grab some establishing shots of the exterior and make sure to film the building of the location you’re in especially if it’s a notable location that the host is proud of. This is great to set the tone for your recap videos, and it might lead to a connection down the line with the venue
4. Don’t forget sponsors
A lot of events take sponsorship in the form of products related to the category of the event. Filming these products is of great value to the event host and to the sponsors which will encourage more future events. This is always a good call, even if things get busy at the event.
5. Leave some audience heads
We used to zoom really close onto the speaker delivering a keynote or a presentation. it’s actually important to show the audience because it keeps the video viewer engaged while also delivering on the promise / perception that this person is an expert worth being listened to.
Sneak some creativity in there when you can, this is a classic hyperlapse with motion blur
