PCT Day 29 ~ 23.8 miles ⛰️ 🌬️ ⛺️
📍 Mile 406.6-430.4

It was a dewy morning at camp but we waited for the sun to dry our gear before packing up and hitting the trail. It was a long day of hiking, our biggest mileage day so far!
The ticks have been bad this year and today I found one on my leg so I picked it off and flicked it back into the woods.
Towards the end of the day we had a steep climb. I was feeling tired and ready to lay down, but as soon as I came up and over the crest, I was rewarded with a breathtaking view of blue mountains in the evening light just before golden hour. It revived my spirit and I skipped happily into camp.
We stayed at the Messenger Flat Campground which had privies and bear lockers! One of the bear lockers even had a case of waters for us which was great because this campground did not have a spigot.
It was very windy with 45mph gusts making it difficult to set up our tents. When it was time to cook dinner we all huddled into the entryway of the privy, the only place with some shelter from the wind.
I fell asleep to my tent flapping violently in the wind and tried to imagine it as white noise.

I’ll catch ya tomorrow for day 30!

PCT Day 28 ~ 22.4 miles 🌿🥾⛺️🃏
📍Mile 384-406.6

We started the morning hiking through a field of poodle dog bush, a highly poisonous plant that you do not want to come in contact with! It’s worse than poison oak or ivy and the irritation can last for several weeks. No touchy!
We emerged onto Highway 2 and had a few miles of road walking to avoid a trail closure that protects the endangered mountain yellow legged frog. When we got back on trail we hit the 400 mile marker and received trail magic from some kind day hikers. Shortly after we arrived at Camp Glenwood and received more trail magic!
We got to camp early and had some time to spare, we Headbanger broke out the cards and taught us a new game called Presidents. We went to bed to the sounds of the boys scout troop that was camped nearby cheering and laughing and having a good time.

I’ll see ya tomorrow for day 29!

PCT Day 27 ~ Mount Baden Powell 🏔️ 🥾 ⛺️
📍 Mile 384 (14.6 miles hiked today)

Today we summited Mount Baden Powell. I felt refreshed and energized after our double zero in Wrightwood and was ready to climb. And climb we did, over many short switchbacks, and some snow covered trail. Nothing too bad that just our poles couldn’t handle.
A flock of PCT hiker crowded the summit, it was the most thruhikers I had seen in one place since CLEEF.
We enjoyed the view, ate lunch, chatted with new and familiar faces, then continued on our way.
Everyone we saw at the summit ended up at the same spot, Little Jimmy’s Campground. We hung around the picnic tables having dinner then tucked into our tens as soon as it started getting dark because the temps were dropping fast!

PCT Days 25 & 26 ~ Double Zero! 🏠 🍕 🌲 ☕️
📍 Wrightwood, CA

Wrightwood has definitely been my favorite trail town so far. It’s small, but has everything a hiker might need: cabins, supermarket, post office, gear shop, brewery, and lots of restaurant options.

My favorite part of a town day is the food!! And in Wrightwood I sure had my fill!

And if you’re hiking the PCT this year make sure you stop by the hardware store and sign the log book!

Up next, Mount Baden Powell! 🏔️

Day 24 on the PCT ~ into the mountains! 🏔️ 🥾 ❄️
📍 Mile 369.4 (22 miles hiked today)

It was a dewy morning, but we didn’t wait for the sun to dry out our gear, instead we packed it up wet and hit the trail.
We climbed up into the mountains getting views of the snow capped mountains, one of them we will be summitting soon, Mount Baden Powell.
Headbanger and I stopped at a small campsite for lunch with a view. The sun was out so we laid out all our gear to dry while we relaxed and ate.
We made it to Inspiration Point parking area and caught a quick hitch into town from the first person we saw! A kind local woman dropped us off at our Airbnb in the town of Wrightwood.
Our night ended with 5 cent margaritas, a fat burrito, and a hot shower before laying down for a restful night.
