During the first hour of tonight's Tales of the New West, host Chris Aaland remembers the great Raul Malo with plenty of music from The Mavericks, Raul's solo projects, Los Super Seven, and more. Raul died of cancer last week at the age of 60. Then during the second hour, he'll travel back in time for some indie rock and roots rock of the 1980s and early '90s, including The Replacements, The Blasters, Drivin' N' Cryin', and The Del-Lords. During the first hour of tonight's show, host Chris Aaland will begin his monthlong celebration of Native American Heritage Month with music from Cary Morin, Robbie Robertson, William Prince, and more. He'll start the show off at 7 p.m. by opening The KSUT Vault for a couple of tunes from Bill Miller, recorded at the 25th annual Four Corners Folk Festival. During the second hour, Chris will remember his father, Bill Raines, who died last week at the age of 80. Bill's record and cassette collection of the late '70s and early '80s still inspire Chris as a DJ. We'll hear from The Byrds, Pure Prairie League, Waylon Jennings, and many others.
