🔥 Inews Spotlight: Immokalee Elite7 – Keeping Immokalee First 🔥

Immokalee is building something special.

Immokalee Elite7 is more than just a 7v7 platform — it’s a movement designed to provide FREE training and conditioning to youth athletes right here in Immokalee. This program creates a structured path for young athletes to sharpen their skills, build discipline, and earn the opportunity to compete on the ZSQUAD 7v7 Team — representing Immokalee with pride across the region.

At a time when access and opportunity matter most, Elite7 removes barriers and opens doors.

This initiative would not be possible without the vision and commitment of Jonas Mervilus.

Mr. Mervilus is not only fully funding this program himself — he is actively gathering support from powerhouse leaders in Naples to ensure Immokalee’s youth receive mentorship, structure, and long-term opportunity. His mission is clear:

👉 Bring pride back to Immokalee.
👉 Develop disciplined, competitive athletes.
👉 Whoop up on local 7v7 teams.
👉 Keep Immokalee first.

Immokalee Elite7 is about more than football — it’s about leadership, accountability, exposure, and showing young athletes that their community believes in them.

The message is simple:
Immokalee First. Always.

iNews Spotlight – Black History Month Edition

Honoring the Life & Legacy of Fred N. Thomas, Jr.

As we celebrate Black History Month in Immokalee, our Board of Directors proudly honors the life and legacy of Fred N. Thomas, Jr. — a man whose leadership, service, and quiet strength helped shape generations.

Fred joined the RCMA Board of Directors in 1987 and faithfully served for 29 years before retiring in 2016. Even after retirement, his commitment never wavered. He was named an honorary board member, continuing to guide and uplift the organization with wisdom and purpose.

According to Isabel Garcia, Executive Director at RCMA, Fred’s impact remains deeply rooted within the organization. His dedication, integrity, and passion for community advancement left an indelible mark that will continue to influence families for years to come.

Before relocating to Florida in 1980, Fred built a remarkable career as a public administrator. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was also an avid photographer for over three decades — using his lens not just to capture images, but to preserve culture, celebrate community, and support meaningful causes. His published posters and creative work reflected his belief that service and art can work hand in hand to inspire change.

During this Black History Month, Immokalee recognizes Fred N. Thomas, Jr. as more than a board member — he was a builder of opportunity, a steward of leadership, and a living example of legacy in action.

His life reminds us that history is not only remembered — it is created through service.

IMMOKALEE, FL — Community advocate and business leader Jonas Mervilus is spearheading a powerful new movement aimed at transforming the future of Immokalee by investing directly in its youth.

Mervilus has successfully recruited local and national business owners to collaborate on a shared mission: build sustainable economic growth in Immokalee while creating scholarship opportunities for students involved in DECA programs across Collier County.

💼 Business Leaders Unite for Youth Investment

According to Mervilus, the initiative is about shifting the power dynamic in community development.

“The future of Immokalee belongs to our youth,” Mervilus stated. “We must put the power of opportunity in their hands — not in the hands of adults seeking control or financial gain.”

Through partnerships with entrepreneurs, contractors, service providers, and corporate sponsors, the initiative will:
• Provide annual scholarships for DECA students
• Offer business mentorship opportunities
• Create internship pipelines
• Support youth-led economic projects

The goal is not just financial support — but long-term leadership development.

🌱 A Youth-First Vision for Immokalee

Supporters describe the initiative as a grassroots movement rooted in empowerment rather than politics.

By combining:
• Private-sector investment
• Student leadership development
• Cross-organizational coordination

Mervilus hopes to build a self-sustaining ecosystem where Immokalee’s young leaders shape their own future.

As one local business owner involved in the effort shared:

“When you invest in youth, you invest in legacy. This is about generational change.”

If successful, the initiative could mark a major turning point for Immokalee — positioning students not just as participants in the community, but as decision-makers and future power brokers.
