KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A Kansas City, Mo. man and woman who sold drugs to an undercover agent have been indicted by a federal grand jury. The man was also indicted on firearm charges.

Marcellus W. Anderson, 31, and Tyra K. M. McGee, 37, were charged today in a 14-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City, Mo. Today’s indictment replaces a federal criminal complaint that was filed against Anderson and McGee on June 12, 2025.

The federal indictment charges Anderson and McGee with participating in a conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and a fentanyl analogue between December 1, 2023, and June 11, 2025. They are also charged together in one count of distributing fentanyl and one count of distributing a fentanyl analogue.

Additionally, Anderson is charged with three counts of distribution of co***ne, one count of distribution of methamphetamine, five counts of distribution of fentanyl, one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to an affidavit filed in support of the original complaint, Anderson sold co***ne to an undercover agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives on three occasions, methamphetamine on one occasion, fentanyl on six occasions, and a fentanyl analogue on one occasion. McGee participated in one of the fentanyl transactions and the fentanyl analogue transaction. Additionally, Anderson had a G***k, Model 27, .40 caliber pistol in his lap during one of the transactions, which he commented was for protection. Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Anderson has a prior felony conviction for receiving stolen fi****ms.

The charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

🚨 Arrest Made in Threats to William Jewell College 🚨
A former William Jewell College student is in custody after making threats to students and staff at the College. On June 21, 2025, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Liberty Communications Officers received a call from a person stating they were on the William Jewell College campus and were planning to “start shooting” at a specific building.
On-duty officers quickly responded to the campus and determined the caller was not on or near campus at that time. Jewell leadership was notified of the threats so they could take appropriate measures. Extra police and security presence were in place on Jewell’s campus from that point on.
Assistance was requested from local, state and federal partners to locate the suspect, identified as a former student. On June 22, 2025 at about 11:10 a.m., the investigation indicated the suspect was observed at a business just outside of Liberty near 291 Hwy and I-35. An attempt to stop the vehicle was made by the Clay County Sheriff’s Department; however, the pursuit was discontinued due to the extremely dangerous driving by the suspect. William Jewell College in consultation with Liberty Police announced a campus closure at approximately 7 p.m. on June 22, 2025.
On June 23, 2025, the Missouri Highway Patrol notified us of a pursuit and eventual arrest of our suspect near Sedalia. The Liberty Police department commends William Jewell College for acting swiftly to prioritize the safety of their campus. We continue to work together on this case.
Liberty Police would also like to thank the assisting agencies including the Clay County, Missouri Sheriff, Kansas City Missouri Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Saline County Sheriff’s Department, Pettis County Sheriff’s Department, Cooper County Sheriff's Office, Johnson County MO Sheriff's Office and Warrensburg Police Department for help getting the suspect into custody."
