Briauna Adams, 29, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays to 11 years imprisonment based upon her guilty pleas to wire fraud, money laundering, and theft of government funds relating to a counterfeit check scheme and stolen United States Treasury checks. The defendant also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and money laundering relating to a scheme to fraudulently obtain Paycheck Protection Plan (PPP) loans, guaranteed by the SBA under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).

According to court documents, Adams rented a townhome in Raymore, Mo., using the name and personal identification information of another person. Felony Charges Filed in Weekend Shooting

One person has been charged with 1st degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon in a shooting that occurred this weekend.

According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to a business in south Kansas City on Sept. 28 and located a victim who was shot in the chest. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

While on scene, Raytown police advised they located a shooting victim, later identified as the defendant, who was shot in the head and back and was transported to the hospital.

Based on multiple witness reports, the defendant left the business and tried to come back in. The victim, who was working security, told him that if he came back in, he would have to pay. The defendant started arguing with the victim. Another male went and retrieved a firearm from a vehicle and handed it to the defendant who fired a shot into the air and then pointed the firearm at the victim and everyone else inside the business.

The victim, in self-defense of himself and others, pulled his firearm and fired one round at the defendant. The victim realized he was shot and ran inside for help.

Surveillance footage captured the argument between the victim and the defendant and an unknown male taking a firearm from his waistband and handing it to someone. Shortly afterward, the crowd started ducking and the victim returned fire.

Unique A. Cushon is being held on a $75,000 / 10% bond.

Kansas City, Mo.

The Jackson County Prosecutors Office today announced charges against a Kansas City woman for allegedly striking a man to death and then setting the house on fire earlier this month in Kansas City’s northeast neighborhood.

According to court records, the Kansas City Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment building near Kensington Avenue and Independence Avenue on Sept. 19 on a reported fire. After extinguishing the fire, which was contained to only one portion of the building, firefighters located a deceased male with severe burns, apparent head trauma, and signs of decomposition.

Detectives responded to the scene and found mail and prescription medication belonging to the defendant at the location.

The Medical Examiner determined the victim’s cause of death as blunt force trauma of the head and the manner of death as homicide.

On Sept. 27, the defendant was interviewed. She said that on Sept. 14, she was with the victim at his apartment when an argument began.
