History is on the move in Independence this weekend.

The Oregon-California Trails Association Trails to Rails Symposium may be sold out, but Sunday's events are free and open to the public.

Sunday, April 19
🚶‍♂️ 9:30–11:30 AM | Walking Tour of the Square
Explore trail-era sites around the Independence Square with OCTA’s Travis Boley.

🪦 1:00–3:00 PM | Cemetery Restoration at Pitcher Cemetery
Learn how to properly clean and repair historic headstones with KC Cemetery Man Kurt Jordan.

Pitcher Cemetery tells a powerful story, including the graves of 49ers lost during the 1849 cholera outbreak, soldiers from the Battles of Independence and Westport, and Ledstone Noland, a Revolutionary War soldier and namesake of Noland Road.

📍 Both events are free and open to the public.
