I’m excited to share that B. Majors Publishing has been invited to participate in Stories by Starlight at Carl Wilde School 79!

As part of their Literacy Week celebration, the gym will be transformed into a cozy reading space filled with twinkle lights and lanterns while students rotate between guest readers. How cool is that?!

I’m honored to be one of the local Black authors invited to read and spend time with the students.

Opportunities like this mean so much to me because connecting with young readers is exactly why B. Majors Publishing exists.

Moments like this remind me that our stories in fact do matter. I hope to inspire readers to be writers!

Thank you CFI 79 for the invitation. I can’t wait to share our stories with these amazing students!

IT'S HERE!

"Bunnies Don’t Eat Bananas" was created in 2017 when my boys were little. I wanted a new, funny, rhyme-filled way to learn the alphabet, so I mixed the format and made it sing. Almost 10 years later, it’s done and OHHHH it was worth the wait!! This book is me in story form: smart, silly, a little bold, with a lot of heart.

I’ve been writing since I was in 4th grade, and I finished my first book in 2009. But I didn’t get serious about my writing until 2020.

Here are 7 lessons I had to learn the hard way:

1. **Nobody knows you exist.**
You could write the best book ever, but if no one knows about it, it won’t matter. Getting attention is key. Promote your work, pitch your ideas, and put yourself out there.

2. **Don’t ever give up.**
If you stop, you’ll never reach your goal. Keep going, because the next day might be your breakthrough.

3. **Have a "with or without you" mindset.**
Publish your work while you wait. Keep creating even if you haven’t found an agent yet. You don’t need an agent to be successful.

4. **Learn to handle rejection.**
The more you try, the more people will say no. Rejection is just part of the journey. You only need one “yes” to make it.

5. **Build a body of work.**
Readers want to see that you’re serious. Having multiple pieces of work shows you're committed and capable, not just a one-time writer.

6. **Your network is important.**
Building relationships is key. The people who believe in you and support your work can help open doors and lead to opportunities.

7. **Success is about persistence, not just talent.**
The most successful writer isn’t always the most talented, but the one who keeps showing up. Keep improving, keep going, and trust the process, even when it feels slow.

If you want to learn how to write and become a better author, subscribe to B. Majors Publishing . I'll be sharing a workshop to help you get started.

Let's get into AI and the implications it has on human artists and creatives.
In the Summer of 2022, Ammaar Reshi used Chat GPT and Midjourney to create a children's book entitled "Alice and Sparkle". While he received praised for his now viral weekend project, he also came under fire by not using conceptual knowledge to create a story. Check it out here:

"New Kid stood at the front of the school, clutching his backpack straps a little tighter than usual. Today was the first day at his new school, and everything felt BIG—the building, the buzzing crowd of students, the knot in his stomach. His mom gave him a reassuring smile and whispered, “You’ve got this,” before giving him a quick hug and sending him on his way.

As New Kid stepped into the classroom, the scent of fresh paper and pencils greeted him. His new teacher, Mrs. Franklin, stood at the front with a warm smile that seemed to say, “Welcome.” New Kid took a deep breath, and walked toward his seat.

“Good morning, class!” Mrs. Franklin began, her voice full of energy. “We have a new friend joining us today. Everyone, this is Atreyu!” She waved toward him, and suddenly all eyes were on him. Atreyu waved shyly and sat down at his desk, hoping his classmates wouldn’t notice how nervous he felt.

Around him, the kids whispered and smiled, and one boy, sitting next to him, leaned over and said, “Hi, I’m Max. Don’t worry—it’s not as scary as it seems. Mrs. Franklin is really nice.”

Atreyu smiled back, feeling a little lighter. Maybe this first day wouldn’t be so hard after all.

"New Kid and the First Day of School" coming soon!
