Ari’s Joy & Accessibility Journey + A Trip to McDonald’s | Common Threads Indiana

Ari’s story begins with a simple, meaningful moment: ordering her own McDonald’s meal and practicing independence one choice at a time.

Her mom, Jaleesa, shares how Ari experienced a stroke as a baby and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

In this Common Threads profile, Ari shares the things that bring her joy, including TikTok, having fun, McDonald’s, movies, friends, and wanting to be more independent.

Her story also shows how accessibility matters in everyday life, from parking to ramps to places where people can take breaks and fully participate in community events.

Through Ari and Jaleesa’s conversation, we see a young girl learning to embrace who she is while still wanting the same things many kids want: fun, friendship, freedom, and the chance to do more on her own.

They all joined forces to take a chance on his newest vision and launch of A Proper Smash. Let’s just say the neighbors are loving every bite.

Join the historic Walker Theatre for a special evening of storytelling, inspiration, and celebration featuring legendary actress and entertainer Jenifer Lewis on Friday, June 5 at 7:00 PM! ✨

Known as the beloved voice of Mama Odie in Disney’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and The Princess and the Frog universe, Jenifer Lewis has captivated audiences for decades with unforgettable roles in Black-ish, Think Like a Man, The Preacher’s Wife, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and more. Affectionately known as “The Mother of Black Hollywood,” Jenifer brings her signature humor, wisdom, and powerful presence to Indianapolis for an unforgettable talkback experience.
