💙 Calling all Shortridge Alumni! 💙

Join us on June 12 from 5:00–9:00 PM at Shortridge High School for a special tailgate celebration hosted by the Class of 1981!

We’ll be:
📚 Awarding seven scholarships/books to members of the Class of 2026 and officially welcoming them to the alumni family
🎉 Introducing Shortridge’s new principal
👏 Recognizing alumni from every graduating class
🎭 Enjoying a special performance by the Class of ’81 Planning Committee

This event celebrates generations of Blue Devils—from the Class of 1954 through the Class of 2026!

The Class of 1981 holds a unique place in Shortridge history as the last graduating class before the original high school closed. Shortridge later reopened as a middle school and eventually returned as a high school, continuing its incredible legacy.

We’re proud to be part of a community that includes outstanding alumni such as Greg Porter, Clarence Crain, George Pillow, Woody Myers, the Burks, Patzetta Trice, and so many more.

Once a Blue Devil, always a Blue Devil! 💙

Many people who identify as Christians argue that it is ok to hate Islam (i.e., the religion), as long as one does not hate Muslims (i.e., the people). Beckwith is in that camp. But that argument is not some spiritual escape hatch that absolves Christians of anti-Christian behavior. It is a proverbial wink at violent speech and actions that are directed against people of other faiths. Hateful speech nearly always precedes and pre-justifies hateful actions.

For generations, the Recorder Community Picnic was one of the most anticipated gatherings in Indianapolis’ Black community. What started decades ago as a way to bring families, neighbors, businesses, churches, and community leaders together became a powerful tradition rooted in joy, connection, culture, and pride along historic Indiana Avenue.

This wasn’t just a picnic.
It was a reunion. A celebration. A reminder of the strength and spirit of our community.

Now, the Indianapolis Recorder is proud to bring that tradition back home.
